Smiggle and santa

Was in smiggle with my 8 year old dd today.
She bought two pens with her pocket money.
Cashier "do you want to buy some of these pens for their stockings?" I did a little glare and said "santa brings her presents"
My dd went back to my friend and I said "she's only 8 please watch what you are saying"
😢 Might only get this year while she still beleives.

Iabu staff can try to sell however they want
Ianbu staff should be aware dc may still be of believing age and act accordingly.

Ah that sucks. I presume they've been given the question to ask, with Smiggle presuming that most stockings come from parents - it doesn't sound like very natural wording to use off their own back!

Out of interest though - and genuinely, as I don't have any kids yet - how do you explain shops with big "stocking filler" signs and the like, now that your daughter is eight and can read?

HTruffle · 08/12/2019 19:33

I’d have been miffed too.

pinkstripeycat · 08/12/2019 19:34

My DSs were told by a woman in a shop if they didn’t behave Father Christmas wouldn’t come. I thought “well that’s nice decision to make, not yours.”

user1487194234 · 08/12/2019 19:34

At 8 surely she won't still believe x

pinkstripeycat · 08/12/2019 19:34

My decision to make

pinkstripeycat · 08/12/2019 19:35

My 2 believed last year at aged 11 and 13! I must be good at making it real. This year they don’t

BlackSwanGreen · 08/12/2019 19:36

That was thoughtless of her. My 10yo believes.

MolyHolyGuacamole · 08/12/2019 19:37

So many people treat Santa in different ways it’s unreasonable to expect staff to think about it. Growing up we got a mix of presents from both parents and Santa, including stocking stuff and under the tree. So I’d get gifts in my stocking from my parents too. Not the end of the world.

Sometimes adults like to do stockings for other adults because Father Christmas only does them for children.

Stellar answer and I can't believe that didn't occur to me. Thanks Smile

CheshireDing · 08/12/2019 19:40

My 8 year old still believes in Father Christmas and Christmas Elf.

The cashier should have thought about what they were saying. I would be miffed too.

monkeysox · 08/12/2019 19:46

My ds is ten and I'm sure he knows but plays along. She's only in y3 so I'd like another year or two.

Anchor Experience from lying to children for years about Santa...Xmas Grin

Dollymixture22 · 08/12/2019 20:20

Silly wording from sales staff.

But easily explained away. Stocking fillers just means small presents - often from Santa but other people buy them too.

@user1487194234 why do people choose a load of numbers for their username?
