to expect DH to be a grown up?

  1. to expect my fully adult husband to be able to cope with going to the bank and complaining because they've given us the wrong pin numbers for the third time, given that I am flat out at work and he is at home, with DS at school all day, and a man in a country where that automatically makes him more important than me?

  2. to expect him not to sulk when I ask him to go and deal with the bank because I am in mtgs all day, and then to throw a hissy fit such that I end up having to bloody do it anyway?

  3. to expect him to be able to call up the telecoms provider and agree a time for them to install broadband himself rather than me having to do it and hope that he's free at the time chosen?

god I'm going to have a cracking day today, I can see it already.

Owch..... no you are not being unreasonable. What is it with the modern metro-sexual man ?

My DH would be just the same on the grounds that because I work in Financial Services I would be better dealing with people, but really I don't think that let's them off the hook!
Logic & common sense say it would be fair to expect who ever has the most time to do it - would do it. Take a little comfort in multi-tasking and being more capable?!!!

Where are you that men think it's okay to treat women that way???

fawkeoff · 23/08/2007 07:17

nope ur not being unreasonable at all.its funny how men think we have nothing better to do than sort their mess out,its like gaining another child when u have a dp/dh

middle east. when I'm mrs boss lady its fine but when I'm mrs wife they expect the husband to deal with important things.

anyhow I've sorted it now and he's still sulking. apparently he's tired because I woke him up when I got up to DS in the night. interestingly he thinks I got up once and I was actually up 6 times and he didn't stop snoring once.

some days I could happily give him back to his mother.

oh yes, they all do it, to varying degrees. I am forever complaining that dh makes me be the General of our house, saying what and when.

BandofMothers · 23/08/2007 09:23

How very demeaning, and annoying.
Glad you have sorted it. Let him sulk I say, bet he'll snap out of it soon enough if you ignore it totally.

meowmix · 23/08/2007 09:26

tis a bit but you get used to it. I just pull rank "excuse me but I am in fact a Verrrrry Important Person INDEED".

You should see me handle the airline (I fly all the bloody time for work). I sometimes scare myself.

They all do it - DH won't even phone up for a take-away, or go the door and pay for it when it's delivered.

BandofMothers · 23/08/2007 09:28

hmm, DH wont phone for it, but if I have to phone, I make him go to the door and pay for it.
Bloody men

meowmix · 23/08/2007 09:29

yes my dh does that. are they scared of the phone or something?>

Not when it's his mobile and his mates are calling him. Just seems to be any thing that I could potentially do for him

lizziemun · 23/08/2007 10:18

That why i don't have bills in my name, so DH has to deal with it .

saltire · 23/08/2007 15:04

lizziemum, we had the bills in DH's name - which was ok until he had to go to Bosnia for 6 months, and we had problem with gas and electric and I needed to claim something on house insurance "We can't talk to you Mrs Saltire, your not the account holder".
I ended up getting the MOD involved to get my gas sorted, and my house claim sorted.
