To not tell uni I’m leaving but not attend

Hi. I’m at the end of term 1 at uni soon and will be ending my studies once exams are done this week (multiple reasons, not going into that) but I could really do with the maintenance loan. What would happen if I didn’t tell uni I was leaving and just still got the maintenance loan? But then just didn’t attend?

Or if I do tell them I’m leaving do I still pay the 9k for the full year even if I’ve only done half?

My daughter left uni after six months. You will stay have to pay the maintenance loan but not all of it. They will work out how much of it you have to repay. Also don’t worry about leaving. Uni is not the be all and end all. It’s not for everyone.

You certainly won’t get arrested for dropping out of uni and receiving a maintenance overpayment 🙄 prosecution would be reserved for extreme cases eg organised crime. I think OP’s worst case scenario would be debt collectors and high interest - civil action, not criminal.

I quit uni at the end of year 1/ start of year 2.

I had to pay half the second year fees, remained in my private rented house and got a job

@WitchesGlove You know that this can influence your credit score in future?

TheDarkPassenger · 08/12/2019 20:06

Can you transfer uni? I did this, granted not across a border but worth looking into?
I had to pay my full loan back (£1000 back then) and reapply for the new uni but this has probably been made easier nowadays. I also had to pay my full year accommodation contract but that was fine cos I moved in with my now ex into his house where he paid all the bills

You will probably have to find someone to take over your accommodation contract. The problem with being a working person in a student household is that you become eligible for the council tax.

The Students Union have advisers that can help you navigate all this. It is doable and can be sorted

transfer to another uni?
not sure about the accomodation though.
