I have washed it twice according to instructions (without tumble drying which is actually allowed) now it so bobbly it is unwearable. Is this reasonable wear and tear or not?

DobbyTheHouseElk · 07/12/2019 08:34

kenandbarbie · 07/12/2019 08:35

Any recommendations of what fibre / shop doesn't do this?

IME all knitted jumpers in the end, refsdrjess of cost or material, apart expensive cashmere ones (but not cheap cashmere). It’s to do with the length of the yarn fibres, and cashmere is naturally longer - obvs to shorter bits of the goats fleece are “cheap” cashmere..

Lakeland Bobble Buster is your friend here.

Glentherednosedbattleostrich · 07/12/2019 08:44

I have some from fat Face and from weird fish that wash nicely.

PepsiCat33 · 07/12/2019 09:00

How long have you had it? If you've only washed it twice I'm guessing not long so if you feel it's within a reasonable time period to take it back, then do so.
Most wool/cashmere jumpers will bobble, esp on pressure points where they are rubbed (under arms/against desk etc) but really easy to keep in check with careful washing and a cashmere comb. I tend to buy cheaper jumpers as the man made fabrics don't pill but if you want cashmere or wool, washing before wearing helps too.

Acrylic jumpers make me overheat, but I’m odd like that...

newdeer · 07/12/2019 10:17

I have a ribbed jumper bought in Benetton about three or four years ago, which I wear all the time. I stick it in the washing machine (delicate cycle) spin it at 1200 and tumble dry it on cool. It looks brand new every time. It's a silk/merino blend with a tiny bit of cashmere. All my other jumpers bobble eventually, even the expensive cashmere ones. I love the Benetton jumper so much. It always gets compliments.

Teaandscone · 07/12/2019 10:23

100% merino wool are usually fine.

Moonflower12 · 07/12/2019 10:33

I always hand wash jumpers.
I just put them in a washing up bowl with warm water and M&S wool wash. Leave them for an hour or so. Then rinse in warm water, spin and dry on a horse. ( a drying horse not a horse, horse!!)

They don't seem to bobble.

Yeah I used to have Benetton jumpers that lasted years. I'm going to go to Bennett and see what they have!

If only it was so romantic....

Take it back. In my experience M & S are pretty reasonable about this sort of thing. I once bought 100% cotton school uniform dresses for my daughter, washed them once according to instructions and they shrunk approximately two sizes. It was ridiculous. I went back to the shop with them and showed them an unwashed one for comparison so they could see how much they had shrunk. They gave me a full refund, no argument.

gingergiraffe · 07/12/2019 23:21

To be honest I never buy M&S jumpers anymore as the last few I have bought have been of such poor quality. One gentle wash according to the washing labels and they ended up looking like rags. When visiting a neighbour recently, they had a washed once jumper hung up drying, ready to return to the shop. It was covered in big lumps of fluff after one wash.

BusySittingDown · 07/12/2019 23:31

Question.

When you put the jumper on did it make you start break dancing?

If not then I think you should defo take it back anyway due to their false advertising.
