I can’t decide whether to report this car to the police or not

At my DC’s school there is their school population of 120 or so, and another school, population approximately 1,000. It’s a city suburb so it’s very busy. Council have already sent letters out about drivers’ behaviour - parking in designated coach stops, etc
It’s also right next to an underground station and there are lots of students - pedestrians and cyclists.

There is no pelican crossing. Crossing the road is a nightmare constantly asking yourself “is s/he about to reverse?” As you decide which parked cars to step between and walk back onto the pavement in between. It was getting dark when we came out of school tonight. I was crossing with my DC’s (as I say, no safe place to cross, the road is at the end of a sort of cul-de-sac with school at the end of it). Car comes round the corner and blares on horn for me to get out of the way. I mean I don’t know if he expected us to fucking levitate at his behest, or go back to the side of the road we’d come from, or just disappear, but he was going fast and didn’t slow down. I followed him round the corner - took DC’s back to school first - where he was stationary because he was queuing to get out. Took photos of his number plate. I have seen the man in school, so I know he’s a parent. Went back to school Reception and told them what had happened. (They are always sending letters out about driver behaviour/parking.).
They advised that I should phone the police.
Would you phone the police or should I cut him some slack because it’s so busy round there? There is no question that he is a bellend of the first order but am I wasting my time by phoning 111.
You can’t even cross the road without someone who should know how difficult it is to cross being extremely rude, impatient and aggressive.

Isn’t there some law about not pressuring people once they’ve already started crossing the road?

I would definitely report, however my judgement may be clouded by the fact I live in the same community as the poor little boy who was run over and passed away last week. Dangerous drivers deserve whatever consequences they get imo.

Foreverlexicon · 06/12/2019 20:10

They won’t do anything.
If it happens again it’s worth calling 101 at the time and they’ll put obs out for the vehicle but if you report it hours later there’s absolutely nothing they can do.

Chinainmyhand · 06/12/2019 20:10

Fuck that report him. He knows it's a school, he knows there are no safe places to cross and he was driving fast round the corner.

Marmablade · 06/12/2019 20:13

It's 101 and if you've got his reg they will visit (non urgent) and talk to him about a report about his driving.

Zampa · 06/12/2019 20:23

If you make a complaint the police may issue a notice of intended prosecution to the driver but they could just get a telling off. At least it might make the driver consider their actions.

pinkstar that was terrible. I bet there’s a general air of sadness around. I am sorry. probably won’t do it, but I did try & shame him by standing in the middle of the road obstructively taking his details down.
To me it’s the equivalent of say an elderly person shuffling through a shop doorway and you shouting ‘hurry up!’ At them.
Did he think he was invisible because he was behind a windscreen? So bloody rude and bullying.
Hugospritz I’m a driver. I know it is IDIOTIC to drive fast around that bed because there are about 1,100 kids kicking about at 3.45pm. Especially since I’m a PARENT at one of the schools, as is he.

There is nowhere safe to cross. It’s not an LEA school. No obligation for any crossing, lollipop person, etc.

Obstrusively not obstructively. Although as I say he was in a queue. I think he’s probably short in brain cells and can’t make the connections between school, no Safe crossing, dusk, heavy traffic, etc.

I mean different kinds of driving for different road conditions.

If a pedestrian is in the road it is their right of way. I’d report it to 111 but I’m not sure they’ll have the resources to do much. Community police sometimes send out PCSOs to monitor traffic and keep an eye on bad drivers around schools

pinkstripeycat · 06/12/2019 21:18

Despite what some have said, you would NOT be wasting police time. Police are their to protect us from idiots like this. Driver could have killed someone

Please report him to the police. Nothing may happen this time, but it is on the record in case it persists.
