Just to explain I work as a care assitant and drive single parent with nearest family 30 mins away.
Since I started the job I've consistently been asked to cover calls and runs left right and center most people who do the same job cover one or two areas tops me and a select couple of others cover all areas.
Anyway Everytime someone goes down with a bug or car troubles I'm always asked to cover I had a meeting with management saying that it can't continue as it's affecting my sons behavior.
Low and behold the weekend I meant to be off I worked it and e see up doing.
AIBU to expect not be called in everytime.someone has either something better to do or goes sick?

I'm going to see if.i can take.myself to a conflict resolution course or see if I can speak to management and have it in writing for it to be questioned.

Can’t you just say no or ignore work’s number when it rings?

fullofregrets1 · 06/12/2019 18:14

Just say NO.

Unfortunately I work in rotas for a care agency. I will ask, beg and ask some more if I am desperate for a shift to be covered. I know those who there is no point in asking more than once, and I know those that will give in after a bit of pleading.
If you can't say no, or quickly learn to then you are going to be walked all over and maybe this is not the job for you.
The more you say yes the more they will ask.

Or you could read The Life Changing Magic Of Not Giving A Fuck! You save your 'fucks' for things you actually want to do
Brilliant advice!
There's only so many fucks to be given in this world. Use them on the things that matter to you.

I love this book. Smile

Also when you have something on on your day off mark it in the diary/calendar that you are unable to work that day. I do this when I have appointments etc so that they know I can't come in before they bother trying to ring me
