A question about BUPA

Can anyone tell me whether, in their experience, BUPA treats anxiety and depression as acute or chronic conditions? In other words, if someone has had anxiety and/or depression in the past, before they joined BUPA, are future episodes of the same thing considered a pre-existing condition (so not covered) or a new condition?

I got no response in the MH thread so hopefully I'm not BU to post it here.

Likely to be considered an ongoing issue rather than a new one.

It's going to depend on what kind of policy you have and other conditions.

So I couldn't get anxiety help for my ds because it is linked to his autism. They do not cover developmental conditions.

That was a company policy though.

Did you declare them as pre existing conditions when you joined?

When we took out private health insurance they asked us about any conditions we had previously had. They then attached morritoriums to them. So eg my dh has asthma - that is permanently excluded. He had an operation on his knee - that was excluded for 5 years.

So, they didn't apply a blanket exclusion to all previous conditions but treated each one individually and told us up front what they would and wouldn't cover.

So I guess it depends on what you disclosed to them when you took out the policy and what cover they agreed with you.
