What is reasonable? Damage by a cleaner?

I recently had a professional deep clean. I don’t have a cleaner so booked a professional cleaning company that came recommended. They are insured.

During the clean they took a chunk out of a skirting board and spilt a mop bucket over my stair carpet. The pile has been damaged where it has been scrubbed.

The damage occurred in an area which has been decorated in the last 13 months and the carpet is approx 12 months old.

What is a reasonable response to expect from the cleaning company?

Have you messaged the cleaning company to advise them of the damage?

ZenNudist · 06/12/2019 17:36

Tell them. See what they offer. Id say professional cleaning of carpet and thecost if repair to the skirting board. I am however imagining an 8cm deep gouge. If its actually smaller then i think you need to polyfiller it and paint it youself.

Can you show us the damage? Are you saying they spilt a bucket of water? Wouldn't they just suck it up with a rug doctor and the carpet would be fine? If the pile has been seriously damaged I'd expect them to replace the carpet.

It depends on the skirting as to what I'd expect. If natural wood/oak then a replacement piece fitted by a professional. If painted then either filled and painted or a replacement piece.

I wouldn't expect to pay the cleaning bill either.

I'd expect them to offer to clean the carpet professionally.

What do you mean by "chunk" and how noticeable is it?

Our previous cleaner broke a wine glass when she moved the draining board slightly and it fell. She was already filling in insurance forms when I came home and she told me... I told her not to worry, it was a 50p Asda glass! She was so relieved. I refused to let her pay for it, it was my DHs fault for leaving it out. But this is what they have insurance for after all.

Talk to them - they have insurance for accidents

coconuttelegraph · 06/12/2019 19:16

I assume you've had a response and you aren't happy with it.

It's going to depend on whether the damages are fixable or whether you need a new carpet and skirting board but either way they should obviously cover the whole cost

LIZS · 06/12/2019 19:24

What have they offered? Repair of skirting and proper clean of carpet to start with, insurance claim if needs be.

GlamGiraffe · 06/12/2019 19:27

It depends on the actual level of damage.
If you post picture you are more likely to get an honest range of opinions.
