Teething puppy and my baby

Ok, so I really don’t think I’m an overprotective first time mum but I may well be. My (lovely) in laws bought a puppy when my baby was newborn, I never really thought anything about it. But my baby is now 8 months and teething and the puppy is seemingly in a similar stage in the dog world and chewing everything including me. My in laws want to have my son during the day for a bit while they are both off work during the Christmas period. They don’t have a play pen or anything like that and my son just wants to crawl at the moment and I keep imagining the puppy nipping him. WIBU to say I’m not comfortable with them having him while they have a nippy puppy running around? Now that I type it I don’t think AIBU... sorry, don’t have anyone else to talk to face to face.

Of course you're not, puppy teeth are bloody sharp!

pawsies · 05/12/2019 22:02

Get them a playpen for xmas to keep at their house?

pawsies · 05/12/2019 22:03

Playpens are very useful for when they can't supervise pup so it'll come in handy regularly, not just for your baby.

YANBU my sister has a puppy and her teeth are like razor blades.
I don't like DS around her because understandably she is a baby herself and wants to chew everything in sight it's in her nature. I just see it as if I don't have to have my DS around her then I won't put him in that situation.

We're currently spending the week with my MIL who has a new puppy. Our DS is a year old. They're having the best time together. Obviously someone needs to keep an eye on them but they're having soooo much fun. Hours and hours of fun. Both are very excited little creatures and there have been some incidents but nothing concerning and clearly nothing that's frightened or seriously hurt our boy as he keeps going back for more play! If they promise to watch them when they're together then I don't think you have a problem.

Thanks everyone, I bit the bullet and told them and they were absolutely fine and understood. We’ve now arranged for me to take the dog out for a bit with my partner for a walk and a baby free lunch while they have my son for a couple of hours. Everyone’s a winner Smile

Glory be. A measured and sensible solution reached after just 7 posts.

Well done OP. It has to be a record. Grin
