GP keeps saying eczema but it isn't itchy etc. I go to brush my hair and randomly find open sores Sad The area on and around the wound leaves me bald. No idea why. I don't touch them as they're extremely painful etc.

No idea what it is but I'm beginning to think I need a second opinion from a different GP. Mine won't refer me to a dermatologist and insists I just need to find the right eczema cream (if it is that, I've never had eczema anywhere else in my life).

Does anyone have any ideas?

Are you deficient in zinc? This can cause open sores. My skin around my fingers cracks sometimes and taking supplements sorts it out.

Def get a second opinion

Dandelion1993 · 05/12/2019 21:52

I suffer badly from eczema and also get this sometimes.

I use T-gel shampoo which seems to really help.

JoanieCash · 05/12/2019 21:56

I had something very similar when I switched to shampoo bars and was trying SLS-free shampoo. It was also at scalp line. When I went back to normal shampoos and tried coal-tar/T-gel type was all sorted. I think it’s a form of dryness/eczema too.

msmith501 · 05/12/2019 21:59

T-Gel shampoo is brilliant. It looks like psoriasis.

Bottomofsmughill · 05/12/2019 21:59

Looks like it could be psoriasis or sebborrheic dermatitis? Definitely worth a second opinion but in the meantime TGel shampoo or tea tree might help.

Tumbleweed101 · 05/12/2019 21:59

I had something similar a few years back and dr gave me liquid hydrocortisone to put on them. It worked for mine.

You need a second opinion. Practice nurses are pretty good with this area too.
You may need some swabs taken to rule out any infection- fungal or bacterial.

MazDazzle · 05/12/2019 22:01

My sister has had this all her life and. It hung has worked!

Her DD has it too. Sad

keptorswept · 05/12/2019 22:26

I don't think psoriasis as that's flaky etc which this definitely isn't. It's just wounds, that don't really heal but just cause baldness and go quite deep Sad

You can actually feel a small dent in the head

Yes I've had those for years. I have tried everything. As a last resort betnovate scalp lotion on prescription works.
Otherwise I've learned;
Never use the same shampoo all the time.
Dont wash hair too often, I used to have a short crop which washed daily and when my GP said dont wash more than 2/3 times a week I grew my hair. That improved it by 50%.
Currently I have no hair due to chemotherapy and I've washed my scalp with Hibiscrub which has made a huge difference.

MrsToothyBitch · 05/12/2019 22:33

Is it rather deep set folliculitis? Probably not but worth checking?

Notcontent · 05/12/2019 22:33

I think it's folliculitis. Do get a second opinion and someone who will actually take a swab. Otherwise it could get worse.
