To ask about your cleaner and Christmas or your opinion if you are a cleaner...

I have had a cleaner for about 6 months. We call her ‘The Angel’ - she’s massively helpful and very trustworthy.

I will be paying her for her normal day on Christmas week but wondered what else might be normal?

Do you buy your cleaner a present?

If you’re a cleaner do you like presents or cash?

If cash how much is meaningful?

She does 3 hours a week for us if that’s relevant.

I want something that shows I value her without seeming ostentatious or stingy.

Appreciate any input.

We give a weeks worth of wages as a gift (rounded to a sensible amount)

BloodyCats · 05/12/2019 19:58

I’m a cleaner and I don’t expect anything. If someone leaves a gift or cash it is always appreciated now matter how big or small.

Just do what feels comfortable for you.

I’m going to get our cleaner some nice chocolates

Pipandmum · 05/12/2019 20:00

I think you give what you normally pay as a bonus. And cash is king.

She comes for a double clean the week before Christmas (paid for 4 hours but it's 3 hours worth of work really), she takes the Friday during Christmas holidays off. I also put an extra weeks wage in a Christmas card for her and give her kids selection boxes.

I buy ours a type of wine she loves and a voucher for a nail bar she goes to.

We put an extra week's wage in a Christmas card and give a bottle of Baileys (her favourite drink)

butterry · 05/12/2019 20:04

We also have a cleaner for 3 hours a week and we give her 2 week's pay at Christmas and a box of chocolates as a present.

I was a cleaner when I was a student. Never received anything other than my wages. Truthfully even a fiver would have been welcome, because that’s an hours wages and would have bought me a couple of drinks.

MarshaBradyo · 05/12/2019 20:06

Last year we gave £50 which is a week’s amount. Will do the same with a new cleaner.

Merryoldgoat · 05/12/2019 20:07

Ok, thank you all. I think we’ll give her cash then and chocolate for the kids.

Thank you!

Extra week’s wages in a Christmas card.

OctoberLovers · 05/12/2019 20:07

I would say the weeks wages is the 'norm' if you can afford it.

We treat ours well throughout the year, £15 an hour, always pay for 4 hours, although she's only ever here for 3 hours. Partner makes her tea when she arrives, and she stops and has a quick lunch while she's here...

Last year we gave her £20 and a tin of chocolates, but that was mostly because we didnt go to the cash point.

Easter and her birthday she got the same.

This Christmas we got her a £30 voucher... A tin of chocolates, body cream and we got her kids some clothes
