Empty Advent Calendar!

Just before last Christmas, I bought a reduced advent calendar and shoved it in a cupboard for this year.
Opened the first three windows, and all were empty - I assumed gifts or whatever had all fallen to the bottom. On giving it a good shake, I realised no noise, or weight at the bottom. Opened it and realised that it's completely empty - obviously designed that you fill it yourself.

I'm not that annoyed - I only paid £1 for it, and I'm going to fill it with cat treats (she won't know she's missed a few days) - but if I'd purchased it for someone else would have been embarassing.

@Fr0g

LOL, Advent Calendars are usually a quid to buy new anyway! And rarely more than three quid!

Loads of people buy reduced price Christmas food/snacks/chocolate between Christmas and early Feb. But usually for peoples birthdays in January, February, and March, or Valentine's day, or even just for themselves, for extra snackage and munchings. But who buys it (when it's still winter,) for Christmas the next year? That's batshit. Confused

Christmas cards, and wrap, and gift tags, and decorations etc yeah, but not food (or anything containing food!)

Your cat has snaffled the contents of the Advent Calendar OP. Probably took them out and pushed the little doors back in. Grin

This defo has Daily Mail Story written all over it. Grin

Oh we had one of the Tiger Advent calendars. If it is the one with the big square doors and the double-sized '25' the idea was that you filled it.

I foolishly thought it would be fun to do - DD loved it. We're back to chocolates this year!

PomBearWithAnOFRS · 05/12/2019 11:47

We got the cat a calendar this year, and by the 3rd she had learned to form an orderly queue and mew loudly at 8am until the nearest minion opens it and hands over the treat Xmas Grin Not sure how she'll react on the 26th when it doesn't happen...

ReanimatedSGB · 05/12/2019 11:50

I nearly bought a doggy one for DS last year, but realised in time. He is a voracious eater but I think even he would balk at dog treats.

Threefaries · 05/12/2019 11:52

I purchased an advent calendar for my cats. The pictures are upside down. Imagine the disappointment my cats faced when they discovered this error. Poor kitties. Has ruined their Christmas 😢

Threefaries · 05/12/2019 11:55

Understandably they are turning their noses up at it.

The 'sad daily mail faces' on this lot are priceless. The face on the girl who got the 'Cat Advent Calendar' is SOOOOO fake it's actually hilarious! 😂

Both my boys have the Santas workshop cadbury one (none missing so far, LOVE the picture on the front!) and our puppy has a doggy one (aldi)... it is TORTURE !! the doors don't cover the treats at all, so kids take their time finding the number, - then I have to to use my finger to fish about for the treat (long meaty things), pull it through without ripping it, put it back on the wall so she doesn't shred it, THEN because they're all in mini vacuum packs, it's a scissor/knife job!- by this point pup's absolutely lost the plot and is diving at me practically howling! then she gets it and it's swallowed in a second Shock... never EVER again!

VenusTiger · 05/12/2019 12:04

@CustardySergeant calm down it’s a joke, of course the cat has no idea

KurriKurri · 05/12/2019 12:07

she won't know she's missed a few days"

What the hell? She's a CAT. Have you lost your marbles, fallen off your trolley and gone round the bend? I can hardly believe this thread.

See I read this post from Custardysargeant as 'Have you lost your marbles, of course she'll know she's missed a few days - she's a CAT' Obviously a dog would have no clue Grin

Deathraystare · 05/12/2019 12:10

I'm going to fill it with cat treats (she won't know she's missed a few days)

Oh yes she will! Cats read what you post on her. She will NOT be happy!!!

Fr0g · 05/12/2019 12:13

most years, she gets into the routine that i rattle the calendar, and she rushes up & nuzzles while I open the window.
Bit sad really, as she'll be mostly on her own for Christmas day; one of my friends that doesn't go away will pop in to see her.
Last year she greeted said friend by vomiting up a hairball as she arrived, hopefully she'll be better behaved this year.

it's the yogurt and catnip treats mentioned in the newspaper article that she doesn't like.

Oh. and you definitely get dog calendars - easier to find than cat ones.

If the op had lost her marbles this would provide great entertainment for her cat.

Comefromaway · 05/12/2019 12:20

Is it a pakkekalendar? You have to fill those yourself.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 05/12/2019 12:21

I remember reading once that it wasn't unheard of for people to complain bitterly about being misled and ripped off, having bought one of those cheap disposable barbecues from a petrol station and being disgusted to discover only charcoal and a cooking grill in a tray.

"It says it's a barbecue - WHERE ARE THE MEAT AND THE BUNS?!?!?!?!??!"

manicinsomniac · 05/12/2019 12:44

My sister bought cat advent calendars for her cats last year.

1st Dec - all went well.

2nd Dec - came downstairs to find both calendars torn apart and empty and two very happy, even fatter than normal, cats!
