Ppi question.

I filled in a form on facebook for ppi, giving a few companies permission to check for ppi, I just ticked every bank as I wasn't sure which I'd been with in the past. A few months ago I received over £1000 from Yorkshire Bank and paid the company their percentage.

I've just received an email off another claims company saying 'good news Yorkshire bank has found a potential claim on your account' it's the same claim! does this mean I'm also going to have to pay this claims company another few hundred pound?!
Has anyone been In this position?

I googled for you out of interest (too much time on my hands obviously!) and in a case where something similar had happened, the answer seemed to depend on what exactly you signed/agreed to in writing. So you'd need to check the form you signed to see whether you had an official contract with both companies and whether there was any time limit for the contract etc etc

Thankyou for googling for me.
I googled earlier too and read the same thing. I didn't actually sign any contracts it was all done on Facebook.
I now of course realise I could and should have done it all myself. I think I'll just have to pay up, again!

I'm so annoyed at these bloody companies taking advantage of numpties like me! I'm also annoyed at myself for being a numpty!

If you didn't sign anything don't pay them.

They're letting you know long after you've already had your money - and you've paid the other people. It can't be off the back of any work they did else they'd be writing sooner!

I believe you contract to give them a percentage (plus VAT) of all monies that they successfully claim/receive on your behalf. If they go ahead and make this claim with Yorkshire Bank for you, YB will turn them down, as that claim has already been settled without their involvement, hence they will be entitled to 30% of £0.00.

Incidentally, if the new company believes this is a new claim that they're wanting to commence just now on your behalf, how have they not heard that the deadline for new claims was the end of August? Most ordinary folk know this from that shouty man on the telly, so how could a PPI claims company NOT know?!

MakeItRain · 04/12/2019 16:23

I wouldn't pay them either especially if you didn't sign anything. Just reply saying this claim was settled months ago (and see what happens.)

You could have done it yourself, but it's done and you're still quids in, so don't beat yourself up about it.

Definitely DO NOT pay them, though - if the FB page had, say, 5 companies on it, they could all be after £300 (plus VAT) each out of your £1,000 windfall!!!

Think of it like asking several builders for a quote to build an extension - you only actually pay the one you choose and appoint to do the work.

To re-iterate, they may say that you signed an agreement to pay them a percentage of all monies that they claim on your behalf, in which case tell them that you will indeed pay them a percentage of any EXTRA money that they successfully claim for you - bearing in mind that the deadline for claims already expired over three months ago....

If they persist in threatening you and demanding payment, tell them to document and prove what work they did in order to 'win' the claim that you'd already received a settlement for and paid the company that assisted you in it.

You might even find that both 'companies' are just brands of the one same company and they're either trying it on with you, now that their golden goose has been killed, or are just woefully incompetent.

YOU DO NOT OWE THEM ANYTHING - DON'T PAY THEM A PENNY!!!!

Thanks everyone. The last company hounded me to get their money even though I didn't sign anything, although I did fill in the form online and wouldn't have known I was owed anything without them.

I did wonder why this company suddenly contacted me when the ppi deadline was 29 August.
