I don't see the problem, your DH is there if needed. My DD10 (Y6) lets herself in if she arrives home to an empty house due to DH getting home late from work.

@PositiveVibez if someone on a nightshift finishes at 8-9am then gets home around 10 and has something to eat and winds down a bit hat time would you expect them to be awake?

It's actually great for your daughter's development. She gets to be independent in a safe way.

My son is 10 (almost 11 - year 6) hes been letting himself out after I leave for work and letting himself in (he gets back at 3.45 and I get back at about 5.15) since September so I think with someone home that its absolutely fine. The first couple of weeks he only did it on my days off in the week so he could practice, he loves having the independence.

I’d have no issue with my year 5 DS doing this (and he’s not even that sensible!)

negomi90 · 04/12/2019 13:50

@PositiveVibez how often are you up at 4am?
Nights are no different.
I do mixed shifts long day hours are 9am to 21.30pm, nights shifts are 21.00 pm to 9.30am.
I completely switch my body clock over and so for me on nights 4pm is the same as 4am for the rest of the country.

My 11 yo dd does. And she did for the last couple of months of being 10

There’s a parent in the house if needed. I don’t see the issue, she’s ten, not four.
