Morning 'beeping' etiquette

A neighbour a couple of doors down gets picked up Mon-Fri between 6.15-6.30am each morning.

The person that picks him up beeps his car horn three times in quick succession, beep-beep-beep, presumably to let him know he's there.

While I'm glad it doesn't happen at 5am, personally I wouldn't beep my car horn in the morning outside a residential street.

AIBU to feel it's inconsiderate?

If the neighbours are difficult, just put a (friendly) note through the door asking them to remind the driver not to use their horn. If it continues, get the licence plate and report it to your community policing team.

It’s annoying and illegal. You shouldn’t have to put up with it

Smite em

Arghh it's SUCH an annoying noise! Angry

My dad lets my 3yr old sit in his driving seat and pretend to drive. It's good for a a bit, very cute, but then what does he do? Yeah... BEEP BEEP BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP! This is during working hours, usually straight after Nursery at 3, and I still grab him out every time because I can't stand it!

Car on my street has a horn noise plus a beep noise as it's car alarm and the wind keeps setting it off! arrrghhhh!

I'd put an anonymous note through the neighbours door if it was me.

Local PCSO? They can be extremely useful for this kind of thing.
We had a lad across the road who left for his shift work at 4am. He'd move his car from in front of his parents house to ours then sit with the radio on loud whilst the windows defogged etc.
Mentioned it to the local PCSO and he had a quiet word. Never happened again.

Also had issues with the substation next door. Man around the corner worked for whatever the grid was and parked his van in the substation drive. That wasn't an issue but the revving the thing at 6.30am daily was. As above I called the company and that stopped too.

Highway code Rule 112

The horn. Use only while your vehicle is moving and you need to warn other road users of your presence. Never sound your horn aggressively. You MUST NOT use your horn

while stationary on the road
when driving in a built-up area between the hours of 11.30 pm and 7.00 am

except when another road user poses a danger.

"Must not" in the Highway code means it's the law. Beeping for picking up passengers at 6:15 is illegal.

If you're otherwise on good terms with the neighbours, ask them not to, mention that it's not allowed. If you're not on good terms, feel free to report it.
