To be hacked off with neighbours parcels?

Ok backstory here, I'm staying at my Dd apartment providing 24 hour care after she was being abused by her live in carers so Ive been here providing all her care on my own ( she is 30 and wheelchair bound). As you can imaging
It's pretty full on and because I previously worked as a waking night Carer ( for others) I do not sleep well.
There's a couple opposite who are in their late 50s and she uses a mobility scooter sometimes but on ' good days' is mobile. About 6 months ago I took in some parcels for her on a couple of occasions but then she started knocking in the mornings ( busy time getting Dd ready for the day) she'd be questioning me asking am I going out what time back etc.. because she was due a parcel Hmm n the end I thought CF is taking the p!
On Friday I notice they'd had 2 parcels on the doorstep that were still there all day sat.. I took them in and whenever I knocked they were out. Today postie asks if I'll take a 3rd parcel in for them which I did.. their car pulls up while I'm on the balcony and she spots me gets outta the car and shouts up 'have you got my parcels?? ( first thing she asks) I knock and hubs answers, says thanks and says they've been away all weekend! Now AIBU to think that with txt alerts and delivery dates expected that they took it for granted that I'd take in? Just a little miffed that they'd ordered stuff to come knowing they'd be away and just assumed I'd take it in. For reference she's known by some neighbours as a bit of a nosy Parker trouble maker and I don't want her causing my Dd strife when I leave here. Sorry for long post didn't wanna drop feed.

I used to do the same! People just take the piss and advantage. I don’t take anything in for anyone. I tell the delivery person that I am away for a few days and won’t be able to get it to them.

Brideof2020 · 02/12/2019 19:57

If they didn't ask you to take the parcels off the doorstep why did you ? And why did you take the 3rd of the postman if it bothers you so much?

Kanga83 · 02/12/2019 19:59

Why take the parcels off the doorstep and off the postman? Just say no, you don't take for neighbours. I never have and never will. After a couple of times they know not to ask.

DameXanaduBramble · 02/12/2019 19:59

Just refuse!

boredboredboredboredbored · 02/12/2019 19:59

I think you're making a rod for your own back!

bluebeck · 02/12/2019 20:01

I don't understand. Why did you take parcels off their doorstep?

Yesmate · 02/12/2019 20:03

Don’t accept parcels for anyone. Don’t take them in for safe keeping off the doorstep. Problem solved.

Drum2018 · 02/12/2019 20:06

YABU to take in her parcels. Just refuse any further parcels. So what if they are left on the doorstep for a couple of days. They are not your responsibility. If she asks you to take in more just tell her it is not possible - no apology, no excuses, and no getting into a discussion about it where she gets you to back down. Tell postman/couriers you are not taking further parcels for anyone apart from yourself/dd.

They are taking the piss but you are unintentionally enabling it by taking parcels from the doorstep and from the postman. If they think you're happy to do it then it will just carry on. I know it's hard but you need to put a stop to it!

robocop101 · 02/12/2019 20:18

It's as simple as saying 'no'

The delivery company will either try someone else or leave her a redelivery note - they won't tell her you said no so don't worry about that!

Don't let people walk all over you.

mumwon · 02/12/2019 20:37

they could have them delivered to local shops (Tesco) & collect from there I don't know why more people don't do this - but you shouldn't take them because if anything goes wrong you will be responsible & they could declare they didn't receive them or they were damaged by you. write them a note just saying its inconvenient & perhaps they should do what I have just mentioned.

Thank you because there are only 3 flats on the landing and the other couple are out at work I suppose their assumption is that I'm more 'readily available' when she asked 'have you got my parcels? It was clear that she thought I would take in the ones on her doorstep ( other resident have had parcels stolen from doorstep so was worried hers were going to go walkabouts). I suppose as a Carer for so many years I do try and be kind to others but do learn the hard way when folks take the p... no more parcels accepted now!

Well done OP, you sound like a kind caring person but it's time for this to stop. Best of luck and stay strong Smile
