To expect a note through door?

AIBU to expect a note through the door if someone was banging on the door for 20 minutes straight? I woke up quite abruptly around 8am (it’s my day off so wanted a lie in). There’s a full renovation going on next door so I put it down to that. I heard a lot of banging and neighbours dog barking but couldn’t really tell the difference between the builders and my front door. I managed to catch a glimpse of the man as he was leaving, young guy in smart wear with no ID on or company name. Definitely not a delivery guy. I’ve had no phone calls and no clue what this could be other than someone trying to sell me something. The banging was so aggressive I thought it was next door using hammers! What could it be? Would political people knock that early to canvas? I’ve got no debts and pay my tv license so it’s not to do with that

Don’t you have a doorbell?

We do, a large Ring doorbell in the centre of the door. Most people seem to be too stupid to use the bloody thing!

We have a door bell in a clearly visible place. The speaker is in the hall so can be heard ringing by the person who presses the button - and yet people hammer on the door including hammering on the glass panels. Why?

If someone had knocked on my door for that long I would have gone to see what the commotion was for - even if I was wearing my PJ's (and I'm not a lounging around the house in PJ's kind of person).

I've had no end of delivery men mainly persons banging on my window getting angry we didn't respond to them knocking on the door. When I point out we have a doorbell they loudly try to tell me its my neighbour's doorbell. The large Ring doorbell slightly off to the side pointed at our step and driveway. Still do it now despite the sign we put up saying to ring the doorbell and pointing to it. Madness.

This doesn't make sense to me,twenty minutes is a long time laying listening to someone knocking on your door, rather than lay there timing him,why not go and ask what he wants op?😁

AdobeWanKenobi · 02/12/2019 15:18

And a time machine, presumably?

Always one isn't there?
Hmm

Always one isn't there?

The poster is asking if she's unreasonable expecting someone who banged on her door this morning to have left a note. How does getting a Ring doorbell after the event help answer her question at all?

Sweetpea55 · 02/12/2019 16:17

Political canvasser maybe?

ArgumentativeAardvaark · 02/12/2019 16:23

High Grant was canvassing for the Lib Dems in Finchley the other day. Maybe it was him?

Ok @VanGoghsDog seeing as I'm going to have to spell it out for you.

Nothing any of us say here can help the poster know who was there can it? But a video doorbell will help in the future.
Hmm

VanGoghsDog · 02/12/2019 19:33

She didn't ask who was there, she asked if she was being unreasonable to expect a note through the door from someone who knocked so much and got no reply.

Of course she is being unreasonable, but your suggestion that she get a doorbell is pointless to her question.

Maybe they thought you couldn't hear over the building work?

DuckbilledSplatterPuff · 02/12/2019 19:53

I saw the words lie in and day off and assumed it all happened yesterday. I think I need new glasses. Smile Smile
