Livid with neighbour over dog pee

annoyedbydogpee · 01/12/2019 23:09

A couple of weeks ago, very late at night I saw my neighbour walk over to our garden and let his dog pee on our grass. I then set up my baby monitor camera to face our garden and as expected, the neighbours have been bringing their dog into our garden to pee every night. I am livid with them, not only has our grass started to die in the area where the dog has been peeing (clearly they have been doing this for some time), we also have a 5 and 2 year old who play on the grass. I’m so angry that I’m actually considering getting a lawyer to write to them and threaten them with legal action. AIBU to take it as far as getting a lawyer involved? WIBU to ask them to get our grass treated so the grass will grow back? I’m fcuking tempted to go and pee all over their brand new Mercedes Angry!

@annoyedbydogpee 〜〜 Yeah - that's why
you need to confront and record them in the act.
That way they can't deny it.
Well, at least they've stopped (for now).
Don't let your guard down, though.
NOW is the time for motion-activated sprinklers!

Xmas GrinXmas GrinXmas Grin 👏👏👏

Yes warn them!

And in response to the pp who said dogs communicating via pee is like Mumsnet for dogs...

... brings me back to a time when, discussing why our dogs always pee on the same hedge, DS said: Ah, so it's wee-mail Grin

BasiliskStare · 04/12/2019 03:16

Well OP well done for speaking to them - as others have said - exactly the right thing. It's hard with irresponsible dog owners. ( & I have a dog)

Either 1) say to them they should be careful where their dog wees because it can damage gardens and grass etc & not just yours but other neighbours or 2) & I must admit I watched the BBC adaptation or The War of the Worlds - build a massive Martian tripod with a laser beam and get it to follow the dog whilst doing that sinister booming sound & illuminating dog and walker. That may stop it Grin

In all seriousness it's irresponsible to let dogs roam any which way without recall if they are causing damage but then I live in an urban area
so on lead until at park .

On reflection massive Martian with a hooting / booming voice and scary lights. Am willing to collect loo roll inners to help. Grin

I am pretty much agreeing with you but dog owners who do not behave properly - it's hard. I've spoken loudly to those who let their dogs poo & clearly don't have an inkling it is their job to pick it up - I realise that is slightly different from grass and wee. Big Martians

Biancadelrioisback · 04/12/2019 03:28

Anonymous notes in all your neighbours letter boxes.

PavlovsDeafDog · 04/12/2019 03:53

*just to clarify --
Meaning, to record while you are confronting them in the act.
I know you've already recorded them, which they've denied is them.
But if you record them as you confront them -- then they ain't got nuffin.

Record while holding phone, as well as by the baby monitor, if possible.

Perisoire · 04/12/2019 09:22

I would warn the new target. Be a good neighbour!

messolini9 · 04/12/2019 12:12

@Perisoire - I am so sorry, but must admit that I initially read your moniker as 'pissoir' ... apologies for appropriate/inappropriate comment :)

@Luckingfovely, 'weemail' is inspired & I commend your son for his sterling contribution to Weegate.

OP, thank you for your update, & the laffs on your thread.
Now wee have a third neighbour involved, you are ideally placed to recruit them to a crack revenge squad, hellbent on implementing @BasiliskStare's excellent solution. @TrainspottingWelsh is in charge of wardrobe, & I am gathering old washing up bottles & sticky back plasticfor the Martian tripod.

We shall strike fear & awe!
Even unto the brink of NDN-s-but-one front garden!

Scrumptiousbears · 04/12/2019 20:03

Look at it this way. Would you have like a neighbour to tell you ages ago this was happening?

Personally I would. They are disgusting CF.

TrainspottingWelsh · 04/12/2019 23:10

Enters with wardrobe perched on wheelbarrow, looking very much in charge. Secretly hoping a lion appears on the forum for a full house.

Fair play op, but now things have escalated may I be the first to point out you don't have a 'how to construct a Martian' problem, you have a dp problem.

justilou1 · 04/12/2019 23:15

Do you have sons, OP? Little boys LOVE to pee in gardens. They especially love to spell PISS OFF on other people’s lawns.

LittleMissTeacup · 05/12/2019 17:45

If they return, please could you consider the motion sensor sprinkler? And then return to let us know...

BasiliskStare · 05/12/2019 18:48

Oh I know that people get teed off with irresponsible dog owners ( and so do I even though I have a dog ) so thank you to @messolini9 & @TrainspottingWelsh - between us we can build massive martians to make people pick up after their dogs. - Ha ha you have both made me laugh - but seriously - most responsible dog owners do make sure no mess left behind.

I have the inner tubes from loo roles and can probably supply a couple of torches. Also paint to make them look a bit more scary. Not sure how to do the noise

You have both made me laugh - Thank you Flowers

LittleLongDog · 05/12/2019 18:51

I would watch for them to walk past and then dash outside (under the guise of putting something in the bin) and make direct eye contact with them walking in/back from the neighbour’s garden.

Let them know that you know.

PavlovsDeafDog · 14/12/2019 04:58

Any update, one way or the other, @annoyedbydogpee ?

GeorgiaGirl52 · 14/12/2019 06:48

Sprinkle baking soda liberally all over the area where the dog is peeing. Then alert your neighbor that you have put out poison in your garden to get rid of some invading rats. Repeat as needed. They will likely start taking him somewhere else.

PokeThePoker · 14/12/2019 07:43

Yes, warn the new neighbours. And yes, keep us updated - we need to know how this saga unfolds :D

housinghelp101 · 14/12/2019 08:51

For those saying it's only dog pee....DN grazed his shin whilst playing football in his garden. Several days later couldn't move, very high temp, GP sent him to A&E in an ambulance. It transpired he had a necrotizing bacterial infection that is found in dog urine. They didn't have dog but the neighbour's dog often roamed around so that must have been the source. DN was in hospital for 4 months, had 10 surgeries and was off school for one year as he had to learn how to walk again.

queenMab99 · 14/12/2019 09:06

From your heading I imagined the usual 'dog peed on my gatepost' , however this is scandalous, I would be furious. Dog pee definitely kills the grass, as my own lawn testifies, but as a dog owner it is something I am prepared to tolerate. Why doesn't the neighbour train his dog to pee on his own garden?
