Taking kids advent calendar back? *light hearted*

Friend came and visited yesterday and brought my kids an advent calendar (chocolate one) and another Christmas chocolate.

She showed them it and my eldest (7) said "oooh we have one of those advents" she then said oh I'll take them back for my granddaughter! And did Grin

My kids are 4 and 7 and today have repeatedly asked (mainly the eldest) why she took them back.

I said it's because you said you already had one when you should of just said "thank you", eldest says "well I didn't want to lie, but still wanted it mummy" Grin

AIBU to think taking it back was a bit mean?

Definitely mean!

AppleKatie · 01/12/2019 22:30

Yanbu and also a bizarre thing to buy someone else’s kids- surely you would assume they had one!?

scousadelic · 01/12/2019 22:32

It's definitely mean but it might have taught them a lesson about accepting gifts and saying thank you before anything else! Grin

Sparklesocks · 01/12/2019 22:33

Mean and a bit odd!

SpoonBlender · 01/12/2019 22:46

Mean, but yeah - good life lesson for the kids!

Chocmallows · 01/12/2019 23:04

Lesson learnt there!

BillHadersNewWife · 01/12/2019 23:07

Mean! But then I don;t think anyone should be buying advents for other people's children as it's something the parent does.

I took my DC to see "Father Christmas" at the village fete and he gave all the kids Advent calendars! They were a bit Hmm as they already had one! They'd have preferred a ball or something.

MistyCloud · 01/12/2019 23:07

@ellieboolou33 YANBU. That was odd for her to do that, and I would not have done it.

Your poor kids probably wonder what they have done wrong!

LiquoricePickle · 01/12/2019 23:10

She was rude. Of course they already have one... But why on earth would she think that small children wouldn't want another?

Glad I’m not alone in thinking it’s a bit mean! As her granddaughter is only 9 months I’d assume she’d not need 2 advents!
The chocolate inside are so tiny having 2 per day in the lead up to Christmas wouldn't do any harm 😀
