Shiny smart boys clothes

is what my soon to be 6 year old wants to wear on his birthday. He doesn't want to wear 'girls clothes' any more. So pink sequins are out and some leggings but not all. Elton John would know what to do. (Is he on MN?).

AIBU to consider

Not usual for our family but we are mixed race. I could make something out of an old sari if I give up sleeping Grin
Any other ideas anyone? Feeling a bit sad but also do want to find him something he will love and feel comfortable in.

What are you sad about?

ElBandito · 01/12/2019 16:47

Sainsbury’s do some boys tops with sequins on. Not sure if they will meet his requirements as although they do have sequins they are still a bit boring.

Also Next do sequins. The rocket one is quite nice, even if it is still a bit grey.

He’s basically saying he wants bright, colourful boys clothes isn’t he? Sadly these are hard to find.

Neome · 01/12/2019 18:16

Thank you Elbandito, you sent me off on a great online hunt.

Rubyupbeat I feel it is sad if a child feels they cannot choose something because it is the wrong gender for them. Especially if it is something they have previously liked or sonething they are drawn to ie as Elbandito says, bright, colourful clothes.

Why has your child decided a particular type of clothing is the wrong sex for them? Next and Morrison’s sell loads of boys clothes that are pink and many other bright colours. Has anyone told your Ds he can’t wear a particular item of clothing as it’s for girls? My 2 Ds wear what they like and it wouldn’t even enter their heads whether something they liked was specifically for girls or boys and they are teenagers! If no one mentions it or makes a big deal of it the kids (and their mates) don’t notice. If you look at older kids you will see anything goes.

I am guessing someone at school pinkstripeycat. I'm very much of your mind and approach. His school is non uniform, very multicultural and lots of variety in what kids wear to school. Some of the younger girls wear very frilly net skirts over leggings and boots and there are any amount of sequins which DS especially likes. I don't think I've ever seen boys in frilly skirts other than if dressing up at playtime.

H&M have a couple of sequined tops in their boys’ range OP. You sound like a lovely mum Smile

Rubyupbeat · 01/12/2019 20:25

@Neome
Yes, it is sad that he feels maybe conscious of wearing what he would really like to.
hope you find some nice items for him.
