- to be looking forward to saying we are "in the twenties"?

It's been 20 years since we've been able to say easily what decade we are in, but soon we will be "in the twenties".

Does anyone else feel the same, or is this a manifestation of regret for my lost youth and nostalgia for the last time we could do this - back in the glorious nineties?

Were the last 20’s the roaring 20’s??

It definitely sounds better than teens!!

dudsville · 01/12/2019 13:39

I think some years can't be grouped. 20's, 30's, 40's, 50's, 60's, etc., all ok. "Noughties" always sounds silly, and I've never heard anyone refer to the teens.

Yes, the last twenties were the roaring twenties - the era of flapper girls and gramophones!

Hoping this time round it's anything but the boring twenties!

I wonder how we could possibly compare to the roaring 20s!

Yanbu! I’m hoping to get Thoroughly Modern Millie for Christmas to get in the mood!

Fabulous idea! Grin

Yes!

FlamingoAndJohn · 02/12/2019 20:51

I agree op.

It still doesn’t feel right though. Just try saying something like ‘the project won’t be finished until 26’. Or ‘we went there in 23 for a holiday’. It just doesn’t sound right.

YANBU! Back in the 90s we used to refer to it all the time ie "the biggest band of 90s", "she was a modern 90s girl". It's been weird that we've basically stopped referring to our current decade because we didn't have a proper widely used name!
