AIBU to ask about reusable coffee capsules?

I hope you don't mind me posting here for traffic. I want to buy reusable capsules for my Nespresso coffee machine but I know very little about them. Im thinking of getting the stainless steel ones. Have any of you used them and do you find them good? Do they cause any damage to your machine? Thanks for your advice.

I bought them and they were crap. I’ve now got rid of the nespresso machine as well.

Oh no. I'm disappointed to hear that they were crap. I've got high expectations of them!

I read up on them, and you can’t get as much coffee in them as a proper one (due to the size of the lid vs the ‘proper’ ones which have thin foil). Therefore the coffee isn’t as strong, or nice. Dolce gusto re usables seem to work ok though (plastic cheap ones from amazon). I got them as work recently installed dolce gusto machines for us to use. To be honest though, even with ‘nice’ levazzo coffee in them the result is still nowhere near as good as a nespresso.

I found them very fiddly and the coffee came out too weak. Nespresso capsules are recycled so a least that’s something, aluminium is easy to recycle (once it’s separated from the coffee obviously).

Agreed, the stainless steel ones are shit. I recycle my nespresso pods, though they send a van especially rather than the delivery van who brings the new ones taking the old ones with him... so not sure it's really saving the environment!

I would have thought that anyone who is concerned about their green credentials wouldn't be buying any of these coffee machines, my cafetiere is over 40 years old , that's pretty green!

RandomMess · 01/12/2019 14:41

I have a one cup drip filter machine at home and cafetière at work prefer both to the nespresso results 🤷🏽‍♀️

I get compostable pods from Lakeland (Eden Project, I think?) but it's still nicer out of the French press.

Which? did a piece on reusable pods a few months ago and weren't impressed with the results of any they tested. They also pointed out that the time you spend filling, emptying and cleaning them sort of negates the convenience of using pods in the first place.

I've got some compostable pods from rave but while the coffee is tasty its not strong.
Have been reading about the reusable but they seem to have poor reviews or the better ones don't fit my machine.
