should I report dog

I recently stayed with some people who have a rotweiller dog. I was concerned and asked if the dog was dangerous. They said no it has the personality of a labrador. However because they have a large property they have the dog as a guard dog. At first the dog was ok but then suddenly the dog went for me and I was very scared. Should I have reported the dog? What if the dog went after a child? It is all very well to say the dog as the personality of a labrador but if it a guard dog what is the use of that if there is an intruder? Because these people were so nice and upset at what happened which thankfully nothing serious happened I was reluctant to take matters further. However they said what I should have done was put my arms up and shouted down to the dog. This means that the dog has a tendency to be fierce because otherwise they would not have said that is the command when the dog gets over excited or comes at you so if the dog is as gentle as they first made out then why is the dog for guard purposes and why would the dog be trained to follow such a command and stop coming at you? They must know the dog can be unpredictable so they have trained it to follow the shouting down command but they said oh no our dog is fine and gentle. I almost said if the dog is so gentle it would be no good if there was an intruder because the dog would just roll over and expect the person to stroke it

So you were neither bitten nor pushed over?
But you are wondering whether to report either of these non events

EerieSilence · 02/12/2019 13:19

Love the what ifs.
I should probably put my cat to sleep because: she bit me, she scratched me and she's always trying to trip us on stairs.
I think she's plotting a mass murder of our family (including the older cat who bullies her).
Down with her head.

LolaSmiles · 02/12/2019 13:23

You were neither bitten or pushed over.

It sounds like you were scared but are looking for reasons to complain and report with very little information.

PrayingandHoping · 02/12/2019 13:32

Being knocked over by a dog doesn't make it vicious though and a danger to society and worth reporting.

The question so many of us have asked and you seem to be unwilling to answer is..... it, as you claim, a rottie put its mouth on your arms and legs in an aggressive way.... did it leave a mark on you? Are u injured?

MrMeSeeks · 02/12/2019 13:43

Are you just looking for reasons to report this dog? Do you want people to agree and say report?
None of anything you’ve written says the dog was out of control.
You could trip down the stairs of your home, should you report yourself?

FizzyIce · 02/12/2019 13:50

What is that you want us to say exactly?
You haven’t actually said it but you ,you just said “put it’s mouth “ on you .
And what if it did knock you over ? I’ve been knocked over a couple of times by dogs but they were being over excited , they weren’t being aggressive and what a weird question when it did no such thing .
Why so vague ?

stayathomer · 02/12/2019 14:02

Mouthing is extremely common behaviour in dogs - it'snotthe same as biting and shouldn't be treated as such

No but with a rottweiler it's still very sore!I don't think you should report but definitely don't visit again, and if it ever comes up in conversation maybe diplomatically remind them their dog can be a bit scary for non dog people

Grin Grin Grin I have been thinking much the same thing @MrMeSeeks.

Supposing - JUST SUPPOSING - I break my fingernail typing a response to this thread? Who do I make a report to? mnhq, or cut out the middleman & just crack straight on with suing the OP?

LolaSmiles · 02/12/2019 14:38

This morning one of my dogs mouthed my wrist trying to lick the residue of the treat off. Maybe they're a danger.

My friend's cat scratched me as she jumped on the sofa. Dangerous animal I tell you.

messolini9 Definitely go for suing. It's the only way.

SilverySurfer · 02/12/2019 14:50

I also have osteoporosis and arthritis. I fell in my garden and spent eight weeks in hospital on traction - should I have reported myself - maybe I could have claimed compensation from myself. Hmm

Did the dog break your skin - we assume not as you won't answer our questions

Did the dog draw blood - we assume not as you won't answer our questions.

Did the dog knock you over - no.

So what the fuck are you going to report it for?

Booboostwo · 02/12/2019 15:05

So to summarize

You were walking in a private garden where you knew there was a loose dog. The dog run up to you, jumped on you and mouthed you. You did not fall over and were not hurt, but had you fallen over you might have been hurt. I think you should log this with the police, call 101 NOW! Update us on what the police have to say.

@LolaSmiles. LTB - but before you do, call 101 to report, & let them know that you MIGHT have fallen over. And that if you did, the cat would have mocked you.

MrMeSeeks · 02/12/2019 17:00

SilverySurfer
I feel you. I’ve fallen down my stairs twice now Hmm i hope you’ve healed now!

I think you should stay away, whether this is family or friends, do you like these people?
If not very much then you don’t need to visit again.

SilverySurfer · 02/12/2019 17:44

MrMeSeeks sorry to hear that - hope you weren't too battered. Try not to make it three times unlucky Smile
