Assuming you're not all having fun Friday nights out, I thought some of you would appreciate this.

DH and I have just stumbled upon a gem of a programme from the 1950s in the BBC Archive (in the iPlayer), in a series called Eye to Eye - the episode is called 'Now We Are Married'.

A married couple interview an upper middle class, lower middle class and working class married couple about family life, being separated during the day, children, and work. It's fascinating, witty and feels, depressingly, like so much of it chimes with our lives today.

I'm currently on mat leave with DS1, and I was so struck by watching it, by how little has changed. I knew that of course, but it was interesting to see a glimpse in to the past with those couples.

Thought some of you might find it interesting too, hence sharing with fellow Mumsnetters.

There are so many amazing archive programmes on the iPlayer, I'll keep a look out for this.

VestaTilley · 29/11/2019 22:11

I really recommend it; I bloody love the Archive section - so much good stuff, and a lot better than some of the newer stuff! Confused

This sounds right up my street. Thanks for the recommendation. Will be interesting to draw parallels with issues today's couples face

SteelRiver · 30/11/2019 07:37

onalongsabbatical · 30/11/2019 08:38

Not sure I'd clocked there was an archive section with stuff like this - sounds brilliant, thank you! Smile

Jantolee · 30/11/2019 18:40

Thanks. I found it by searching for the programme name. Is it possible to browse the archives?

bilbodog · 30/11/2019 20:17

Brilliant - just watched it all. So nostalgic for anyone born in the 50s!

Seeingadistance · 30/11/2019 21:12

Oh, I didn’t know there was an Archives section.

Thank you!

NotStayingIn · 30/11/2019 21:15

Love that section in iPlayer. Look for From the Archive in the categories.

VestaTilley · 30/11/2019 22:24

You're welcome!

@Jantolee there is a full list of every programme on there which you can just scroll down :)

Hope you all enjoyed it. IMO the Archive is the best section and worth the licence fee alone!

Full of old John Betjemen docs as well. Swoon.
