Antibiotics induced diarrhoea and really painful nappy rash

Yes I'm totally BU posting this here but I'm at my wits end. DD4weeks is on antibiotics - thankfully were out of the hospital now but the resulting diarrhoea has given her the worst nappy rash I've seen.
Got metaniun all over... whenever I get a chance. The cycle goes.. sleep, wake, poo, have bum cleaned, this hurts lots, cry, crying causes more poo, clean bum, more crying, more pooing, cycle goes on for an hour or so until were both worn out and both crying. Milk. Sleep. Repeat 24hrs a day.
Any suggestions of ways to get through this? DD4years old is starting to really dislike her new sister! I'm just constantly in tears too.

What are you cleaning her with? Wipes or water? I would use a flannel type material to wipe and not wet wipes as they can be quite harsh. Also what cream are you using? I found the Weleda cream good for DDs happy rash when she was younger

Also maybe try and keep the nappy off for periods of time. Leave baby on a towel if they are warm

Cleaning with cotton pads and water. Using metaniun and medihoney- they gave us the second at the hospital before we were discharged.
Have tried to let her sleep with nappy off. Which is good but as soon as we clean her she poos again..

Basically any crying=poo. And because cleaning her bum hurts, cleaning her bum=poo. It's a never ending cycle..

Also try Bepanthen. My friend whose daughter had a serious skin condition used it for nappy rash. It had been recommended by her doctor. I found it cleared up ordinary nappy rash quickly.

Flowers It's tough. I found bathing DD after the poo to clean the acidic affect of the antibiotics off the skin, dry thoroughly and put a layer of Bepanthen nappy rash cream and a layer of vasaline on top. Avoid using wet wipes. Cornflour (found in baking section) is meant to be best at getting the skin dry. You could put her on a rug with her nappy off to let the air heal it during the day.

Lots of nappy free time. Definitely a muslin and water rather than wipes. I used mustela on their bums.

Sorry, it took me so long to finish my post xpost with everyone!

Howdidido · 29/11/2019 19:48

Thanks!
Been having a lot of baths. I think we'll have to continue with that
It sucks not just for littlest DD but our 4 year old is so bored. We can't go anywhere until it clears up. So lots of daddy time when he's here but no mum time...

Bepanthan as a barrier cream is utterly brilliant.

Hecateh · 29/11/2019 20:09

try using baby oil, olive oil, coconut oil or vitamin E oil instead of water. It won't sting the same and will not further dry the sore area.

Howdidido · 29/11/2019 21:17

Olive oil on it's own? Is that ok on newborn skin?

Cornflour not talc, sprinkle on babies sore bottom, helps to dry up skin.
