To think the humble glue gun is the best invention ever (lighthearted)

So I was getting a bit disheartened by my DH's rather gung ho 'superglue solves everything' approach to things that needed fixing. Hundreds of tiny tubes in my drawers, reached used once before drying out long before he needed them again.

So I got myself a glue gun. Oh my god!! Best invention ever!! Who knew how satisfying melting those glue sticks could be!!

Now going off to find things in my house that need sticking together, you can possibly expect an AIBU from my DH next week about his wife's over zealous approach to glue gunning...

Absolutely love mine. Many a school project has been completed with my nifty glue gun. It’s truly surprising how often I need it. I don’t think you would know by looking at me, how important my glue gun is in my life.

Me and DD made a lovely Xmas wreath with her glue gun this week. She's been after one for ages and I found one in the Black Friday week sales. Very satisfying.

RexDangerVest · 29/11/2019 21:53

Ooh I want one!

LynetteScavo · 29/11/2019 21:54

I do love a blue gun, but I also live my bra. It's a close call.

Preggosaurus9 · 29/11/2019 21:59

Used mine today! Invented something with ribbons and pegs.. also handy to cover up baby unsafe sharp edges on things.

Inebriati · 29/11/2019 22:02

I also want to use it for creating raised dots on plastic surfaces, like braille dots. Will the glue work for that?

WhiteWineAndMagnums · 29/11/2019 22:07

It was a standing joke when I was growing up that my dad could mend ANYTHING with his hot glue gun. He talks about bequeathing it to me (only half jesting Grin)

TheMobileSiteMadeMeSignup · 29/11/2019 22:10

Aldi had a heavy duty high heat glue gun for sale the other week, it takes the 11mm sticks - we stuck an IKEA wardrobe mirror back on with it. It is cordless.

inebriati it sounds perfect!

Redcrayons · 29/11/2019 22:11

Now in need to add this to my list of things I want but have little use for:
Glue gun
Laminator (we have one at work so can partially satisfy my need to laminate things)
Label maker
Staple gun

TheMobileSiteMadeMeSignup · 29/11/2019 22:11

Oh, I used mine to stick pine cones together once I'd wired them onto a circle of wire for a wreath. Then I painted it silver and glittered the life out it.

SheeshElection · 29/11/2019 22:16

Can anyone recommend a good one. I’ve got 2 pound shop ones that are rubbish. Glue just oozes out the end very blobbily and not very controllable. Also zaps through the sticks in between gluing and wastes such a lot. Think I need to invest in a good one!

Miljea · 29/11/2019 22:20

Hmm. I've found the glue dries before I can stick 2 things together.

Inebriati · 29/11/2019 22:24

SheeshElection and Miljea, I have just the thing for both of you;
www.t3.com/features/best-glue-gun

May I draw your attention to the Bosch glue gun, it has a heated extra long nozzle for those awkward-to-reach places, and it retracts the glue stick to prevent drips and drying.
(Ignore the price tag, you deserve it.)

Toddlerteaplease · 29/11/2019 22:39

My dad had one when I was a kid. He fixed everything with it. I loved using it!

Toddlerteaplease · 29/11/2019 22:40

OMG glitter glue sticks. I must invest in a glue gun immediately!

chilledteacher · 30/11/2019 12:08

So many amazing ideas!!

YANBU. DH has Ryobi stuff, started with a drill, bought all sorts for his collection including circular saw. He said he was buying a glue gun, honestly I questioned it. I couldn’t see we’d get much use for it. Honestly, we use it more than anything else! It’s so handy. Mostly for DD’s craft but it fixes all sorts as well. Well worth investing in.

TildaKauskumholm · 01/12/2019 09:22

I must say I'm disappointed with mine.... Tried to glue a wooden dowel to the base of a glass jar - nope, then a plastic thing to the wooden dowel, nope.

HeatedDryer · 01/12/2019 09:27

They are good but I make such a mess when I use one. Also last night I glued my fingernail and now my finger hurts underneath the nailConfused
(I'm a bit clumsyGrin)

QueenOfOversharing · 01/12/2019 09:36

Do I need this? DS is 21, so no craft / school projects. I am 0% crafty. What are the main non-crafty jobs you use it for? Please & thank you.

Sheeshelection · 03/12/2019 23:54

@Inebriati thanks! Sorry a bit late but forgot about this thread. Think I might put a Bosch glue gun on my letter to Santa Smile

barkingfly · 04/12/2019 05:17

I bought a high temp one today; evidently you can glue porous things like fabric to non porous like wood. Also, I have not tried it, but you can use a crayon to make art with the glue gun.

CigarsofthePharoahs · 04/12/2019 06:45

I have a cordless glue gun.
It's excellent.

NanooCov · 04/12/2019 06:49

Adding one to my Christmas list now. Along with the laminator that's already on there.
