To feel so bad over some chicken wraps??

DoctorStickers · 29/11/2019 16:43

I am currently on a diet. It has so far been successful and I look way healthier.
Today I was doing my normal thing when I lost it and ate TWO chicken wraps (not healthy either, southern fried packaged chicken wraps from Tescos, 470 cal!!) Blush I feel as if I have failed.
Am I being unreasonable by asking Mumsnet (first time poster - found via looking through the weight loss threads) to make me feel better???

Don’t feel bad about it, you’ve done really well and will carry on doing really well, 470 cals is nothing.
You should allow yourself a treat occasionally.

Fedupofitnow123 · 29/11/2019 16:50

Not a failure, sometimes we fall, dust yourself off, pick yourself up and carry on, its ok

ScreamingValenta · 29/11/2019 16:50

YANBU to be disappointed, but YWBU to dwell on it.

Suppose you were not on a diet and ate unhealthily every day - you wouldn't expect a single day of healthy eating to make a difference - well, the reverse is true. A one day blip during a successful diet will make little difference in the long run.

Ask yourself if there's anything you can learn from this - what was it that made you slip up - did you let yourself get too hungry before eating, for example - then draw a line and carry on with the diet.

Congrats on your success so far!

Don’t feel bad. It’s just food.
Diets don’t work if they aren’t sustainable.

DoctorStickers · 29/11/2019 16:56

Nothing really made me slip up - I was just craving them to be honest!!

Hard work but like you all said - I've done well so far.
Thank you Flowers

You haven't failed.
When people are quitting smoking they sometimes have a cigarette and feel as if they have failed. They haven't, because they aren't going back to smoking 20 a day!

So had a break from the diet; are you now going to go on a binge and eat a ton of chips? Or are you going to carry on and stop beating yourself up?

recycledbottle · 29/11/2019 17:01

If you fall off the wagon just get back on. If you eat lighter this evening (soup/salad) and be extra careful tomorrow, you will be back on track and back to normal by tomorrow evening. all undone!.

tttigress · 29/11/2019 17:03

Don't feel too bad.

Just don't think, oh well might as well give up now.

Remember, Christmas is the most challenging time, if you can get through that, you are definitely on the right track.

DoctorStickers · 29/11/2019 17:06

I keep craving foods that I haven't had in years!!
Yesterday it was krispy kreme donuts and today it's chicken wraps Confused
I'm trying to get used to the taste of apples but ffs it's so hard isn't it!!

Are you trying to restrict too much? Joined am using MyFitnessPal, and the big thing there is to eat what you want within your calorie goal for the day. From the forums, there seems to be a lot of people who start out either over restricting calories or the foods they eat, which can lead to binging.

Just something to ponder.

On the wrap front, learn from it and move on. One episode of overeating isn’t going to cause failure it won’t even cause gain. Excessive episodes of overeating or giving up altogether will cause you to gain.

Titsywoo · 29/11/2019 17:23

If you are desperately craving stuff then have it! Just count calories and have a wrap for lunch or a donut but make up for it elsewhere. You don't have to cut things out entirely to lose weight! Just eat less than you were.

bridgetreilly · 29/11/2019 17:25

A lapse is not a relapse. It's fine. Move on and don't worry about it.

diddl · 29/11/2019 17:29

How many calories are you aiming for & what else have you eaten?

But I agree that the main thing is to not think that you might as well have crisps, chocolate & biscuits.

How are you not used to the taste of apples?

DoctorStickers · 29/11/2019 17:35

I'm aiming for 1400 calories a day - have been doing for a month or so and already noticing changes!!
I'm eating meals like salmon and kale etc - I don't particularly like apples but I eat them as they're a better alternative to krispy kreme donuts Grin

Apples can vary so much though.

I wouldn't eat them if you don't like them.

I tend to only like braeburn & pink lady.

Raw carrot, cucumber, salad?

Titsywoo · 29/11/2019 18:00

Do you like salmon and kale? You can just eat low cal versions of the things you like you know? It'll mean you are more likely to stick to it.

Spitsandspots · 29/11/2019 18:06

Agree with pp, eat the things you like, just eat less of them/choose lower calorie versions.

To feel so bad over some chicken wraps??
MikeUniformMike · 29/11/2019 18:08

I don't think one blip will harm you, OP, it might actually be good to vary your intake.
I would not recommend a low calorie version of a treat, but for treats that are low calorie. The much longed for doughnut you can have tomorrow if you want, just not today.

Don't go to Tesco hungry. If I buy edibles when out shopping I don't tell myself I can have just one when I get home - I end up pigging out.

Littlepond · 29/11/2019 18:15

It’s just food. Guilt isn’t helpful. Your body needs sustenance and you fancied something nice so you fed your body. Great. It’s just food. 🤷🏼‍♀️

saltinesandcoffeecups · 29/11/2019 18:18

So it sounds like you’re not overly starving yourself calorie wise (although it does depend on factors such as current weight, activity level, intentional exercise, and height) , but maybe are being a little too restrictive on the types of food you are eating. Try to introduce some of your ‘normal’ foods back into your plan and relax a little on the ‘healthy foods’.

If you’re trying for too many changes at once, healthy food and lower calorie it might be backfiring a little leading to the cravings.

It sounds like you are doing great. And this is an opportunity to tweak your plan a little.
