WIBU to buy a cosy toes / foot muff for a large toddler?

It would purely be for the school run. We always walk. There are no buses and I refuse to drive such a short distance. It's a 15 min walk.

The toddler in question will be two in January.

He has a big snow suit, but when it's just a case of going straight to school, then on to a parent and toddler group, which is warm and indoors, it's actually a lot less convenient, getting him into the snow suit. Just putting him in his normal jacket, with hat and cosy toes would be as warm but less of a faff. Different when we go for an outdoor activity in the winter when he needs his snow suit while walking about, but when it's going to be an indoor activity anyway? I am being a lazy cow aren't I Grin?

I had a cosy toes for dc1, which we got really cheap on ebay. It was great, but I sold it on and I can't remember what age we stopped using it at. I remember we definitely still used the pushchair when dc1 was nearly 3yo. We live in a busy area with a lot of traffic, so I didn't like my toddler dc walking here. Mind you, dc1 was a bolter and dc2 is not, (so far), so I may feel safer with dc2 walking at a younger age...

Why would this be a problem? I still use one with my 2.5 year old??

JustDoubleChecking · 29/11/2019 13:35

Well, so I thought you see, but when I googled what age they are for, some people seem to say they're only for babies..? So I don't want to shell out for one, unless I'll get some use out of it.

Its kind of fine, i just never did it with minw because he would have his shoes on, often a bit muddy & wet in winter & the inside would have constantly got filthy. It was better him having shoes on as at 2 he would often prefer to walk that sort of distance and might only go in pram if tired.

Ps reins are great with a bolter until they learn to hold your hand. Trunki toddlepak are really good and nice child friendly animal designs.

I ended up buying a fluffy blanket and some clips to attach it to my pram so ds could stick his feet out the end - worked great and the clips were inexpensive on the internet.

Also to caveat, mine never wore a snowsuit either except a borrowed one when there was an actually snowy weekend. We live in the south east and at 2 he was warm enough in warm lined trousers and a coat.

I don't think he'll be walking on the school run by 2yo tbh...it would take triple the time to get there and it's hard enough getting dc1 out of the house in time as it is. Other journeys where we aren't in such a rush though, he might like to walk. I just remember walking any distance further than about 10 mins at that age with dc1 meant I ended up carrying her for a lot of it.

I think I'll do it. See if there are any eBay bargains, although the ones I want are £100 new and most people are starting their auctions at £60 in used condition on there Confused.

Tbf my dd is just about fitting into hers so they probably do go up till about 2 but aslong as they fit in doesn’t matter what people think, would rather they stay warm and my dd is always kicking her blankets off the pram and more often than not they end up on the wet floor or under the pram wheels so cosy toes work better

Bibijayne · 29/11/2019 13:41

Sounds like a great idea. Tempted to do the same myself for our toddler.

blindmansbluff · 29/11/2019 13:41

You can get toddler sized ones, we had one for my ds.

Mine is 2 in Feb and we still use a cosytoes. Never occurred to me not to. He would freeze without it! He does wear his shoes or boots in it tho so it gets disgusting but I just wash it. Have a look at Bundlebeans if you are getting something new as they are longer.

JustDoubleChecking · 29/11/2019 13:45

Oh thanks, I'll check out Bundlebeans!

I will probably take off his shoes and pop them in the basket. I did that with dc1 who walked very early, so definitely needed shoes with the cosy toes.
