AIBU to ask about breastfed babies and CMPA?

I know I am, as this isn’t really the place to ask but I am hoping for a bit of traffic. If your baby was breastfed and diagnosed with CMPA would you mind telling me the following:

  • When they first started showing symptoms
  • What the symptoms were
  • How it was treated
  • If you followed an elimination diet how effective it was and how long it took to make a difference. Thanks in advance!

My DS was gaining weight so my GP dismissed allergies as a diagnosis.

If you cut out dairy, savers have a 180 pack of calcium & vitamin D pack I take daily.
Most plant milks are fortified Asda & morrisons own brand oat milk are fortified & good in tea & for cooking.
Flora is now vegan too.

Like above it can take up to 6 weeks to leave systems but you should notice a difference by day 3, it’s pretty instant when I’ve cut it out with breastfeeding in my DC.

@SnugStars - thank you (and everyone else) but your reply about a stridor sound is interesting as we currently have a referral to paeds for suspected laryngomalacia but perhaps it’s all CMPA related...

Hi OP, I thought my DC had Laryngomalacia so we went to see a private Gastro Consultant as the NHS hospital were being very unhelpful.
The private Consultant used a scope there and then to check her throat. He put it up her nose and down her throat so could see it was all structurally fine and saw inflammation from the reflux, so prescribed Omeprazole. He then put us on his NHS waiting list. He said that NHS clinics don’t have the equipment so be able to check babies there and then. So I felt it was well worth the cost.

DC2 was a miserable, sicky, small baby.

Countless GP's, HV's never picked up on any issues.

Started weaning at 6m and child had an immediate reaction to porridge (mixed with breast milk). Officially diagnosed at 11 months and back on milk aged 2. No issues now aged 5.

  • I breast fed until DC2 was 2y 8m.
  • Didn't have to eliminate anything from my diet, but I have very little dairy.
