To be a bit uncomfortable that DD(6) has asked for make up for Christmas?

I'm not sure what to do here - any advice would be very welcome.

DD is 6 and still believes. She was a bit put out that Father Christmas couldn't bring her real wings for Christmas, but instead, she has written to him this evening and asked him for a make up kit.

I very rarely wear make up - perhaps once every few weeks - and so I don't think she's trying to copy me. She has a friend whose mum is a bit more relaxed than me about this sort of thing, and I suspect that she may have tried some when she was over there. I don't want to turn it into something prohibited, which might make it more attractive to her as as teenager - what would you do? And if you would allow it, does anyone have any recommendations of stuff that is marginally less inappropriate for kids to use? Thanks very much.

It would only be play makeup which I don't see any harm in. She most likely will get bored of it pretty quickly at that age.

You get kids sets. I used to buy them for dd but she isn't interested in make up now

Get her something like this:

There are also Barbie ones on the website.

I've bought some of the peel off nail varnish and lip gloss from poundland They have some Frozen stocking fillers.
Try B&M and Home Bargains, they do some good infant make up.

ThebishopofBanterbury · 28/11/2019 20:39

What about a lip balm set, with a tiny bit of colour in

QueenWhatevs · 28/11/2019 20:39

I almost never wear makeup but my 5yo has been banging on about it. Its just a type of roleplay at that age. I'm getting her this Galt kit.

My girls had loads of make up at that age.
They are now mid to late teens and only wear it on stage.

jellycatspyjamas · 28/11/2019 20:46

I wouldn’t worry about it tbh, if she watches any tv she’ll see girls wearing make up - is buy it for “dressing up” games and not give it a second thought.

It’s make up not a bottle of gin

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 28/11/2019 20:47

Face paint?

EmmiJay · 28/11/2019 21:02

Its only make up really. Like pp said you can get her play kits. DD has a few and goes through phases of running around the house looking as deranged as Harley Quinn or completely forgetting she even has make up to play with.

SaveTheTreesPlease · 28/11/2019 21:04

I’d go for face paints or hair chalks at that age

stucknoue · 28/11/2019 21:05

She may mean more like face paints

MuddlingMackem · 28/11/2019 21:06

DD went through a make up phase starting around that age, grew out of it around 10 and now doesn't wear make up at all.

For her we bought her cheap but decent stuff, mostly from Bodycare. It's basically just like drawing on a chalk board at that age, just playing and does no harm.

Savingshoes · 28/11/2019 21:07

Is there still such thing as tinkerbell peel-off nail varnish?
What about hair glitter?
I don't think I would be overly concerned as its just experimenting with colours etc.
My main concern would be, does it come off the walls/furniture.

Pinkblueberry · 28/11/2019 21:09

You get kids make up sets that they can play with, it’s good fun. Obviously they look quite hilarious when they’ve put it on themselves - it’s not for them to actually put on and leave the house with Grin

SparkyBlue · 28/11/2019 21:36

Honestly it's a phase that lots of little girls go through. My now seven year old loves her make up but she just plays with it in her bedroom and now her four year old brother loves putting it on as well. Actually she is fabulous at eyeshadow and totally puts me to shame.
