Is it me. Or is there an influx of lazy buggers who seem to be against the use of Google.

(Items changed marginally, both seen in the last hour...)

"I'm really desperate for a Paw Patrol scooter, where can I get one from?"

Well, if you type Paw Patrol scooter into Google, you'll get a list of several places selling various options. Why are you clogging up threads on here with your non-googling?

"Does anywhere sell personalised gin?"

Behold. Type personalised gin into Google. Voila.

Of course there are people asking for personal reviews or recommendations. And those who have tried looking things up, and the results have not been particularly helpful so looking for clarification. I'm not talking about those. Just the large number of quite literally type the same words into Google and the exact answer you're asking for appears.

Surely it takes less time to type a phrase into Google than to write out a sentence on a thread? Plus the results are immediate.

Why? Just why?

"just fucking Google it" JFGI?

Practicalmagico · 28/11/2019 17:28

Oh god YANBU. The only time it’s acceptable is if someone has already tried google and had no luck.
The worst is when people post on a thread just to say ‘what does insert word here mean?’ Then someone replies an hour later explaining the meaning of the word. It would’ve taken 2 seconds to google

BarbaraofSeville · 28/11/2019 17:33

Then there's the posters who ask an easily searchable factual question and get no answer, so post the 'anyone'? follow up some time later.

So instead of just fucking googling, they've waited an hour and asked the same question on here again [Confused]. Whyyyyyyy?

SilverySurfer · 28/11/2019 17:35

I usually Google first but the other day I asked on here what 'woke' meant other than 'woke up') and got told I should Google it. I would have done except I had never heard the word 'woke' anywhere else other than on MN so assumed it was an MNism.

However I do agree in general.

SlothOfSluggishness · 28/11/2019 17:38

What’s google?

BarbaraFromOopNorth · 28/11/2019 17:52

I used to work with lots of people like that. SMT were the worst. Changed career. Problem solved.

SilverySurfer · 28/11/2019 19:07

SlothOfSluggishness
What’s google?

Google it! lol

BarbaraofSeville · 28/11/2019 19:13

I assumed that the 'what's google' question was rhetorical.

Another classic example here. Why not look on the website for the shopping park, instead of hoping that someone who knows the ins and outs of the Fosse Park catering establishments will see the post, plus extra irritation points for using the words 'grab a coffee'.

emmetgirl · 28/11/2019 19:17

Most people are stupid.

Andypromqueen · 28/11/2019 19:25

Stupid person here! I started a post on here the other day as I received what looked like a dodgy text claiming to be from Royal Mail. One poster did say “why haven’t you just googled it?” - so I did and she was right, it directed me to the Royal Mail website and I pretty much got an answer straightaway (it was a scam). My first thought though was to ask mumsnet!

Andypromqueen · 28/11/2019 19:26

Must add though a few people thanked me for posting as it had alerted them to it - that made me feel better 😆

Courtney555 · 28/11/2019 19:28

@BarbaraofSeville

Exactly that type of thing. Why does it infuriate me so? Grin

Some things are worth asking so you get non-online results (local businesses) or recommendations (books, clothes etc not just ads).
But in general YANBU

MoaningMinniee · 28/11/2019 19:38

@Andypromqueen speaking as the first person to answer your thread about the dodgy text I don't mind at all about you posting here first... made me think about dodginess in general Smile

dootball · 28/11/2019 19:44

Some people don't trust google.

TheCanyon · 28/11/2019 21:30

My dh does this to me "whats this phone number?", "can you find out...", "I tole bob you're really great at finding stuff so can you look up..."

I do send him the site let me google that for you quite a lot.

Babybel90 · 28/11/2019 22:05

I saw one on my local Facebook earlier “I’m looking for a tumble drier, must be in perfect condition and cheap” I was very tempted to reply have you tried Argos?

Chandler913 · 29/11/2019 07:21

I agree about googling the famous person.. But I can't understand the thread chatting about famous people's lives in the first place..

Ghoulestofmums · 29/11/2019 08:04

When I had a computer problem my first port of call was (adult) DS, who doesn’t work in IT incidentally. He always had the answer so I asked him how. Googled it, he said. Cue red faced Mum! I now cut out the middle man and go straight to Google myself. His life is now much more peaceful!

Herocomplex · 29/11/2019 08:10

Yes @Andypromqueen I was grateful too, I didn’t know about that scam and it’s exactly the sort that my PIL’s would fall for.
