Here it is. Utterly beyond belief. How is it possible that women chose to vote for him.

It was a column from 1995 - general views have changed - maybe his have?

But the whole column is not quoted, and that is the only way to get the true inflection. Bit like the 'letterbox' comment - sounds horrific, but put into context, the column was actually supportive of women having choices in what they wear.

Pukkatea · 28/11/2019 13:31

Everyone knows Boris has written some dodgy columns - he was an opinion journalist.

And Donald Trump was once a TV star, I still don't think he should have become president after his racist, ableist and sexist views were presented for the world to scrutinise.

"if Corbyn said anything close to what Johnson has"

Corbyn has done way, way worse in my opinion (and clearly the public's, given the respective popularity ratings of the two leaders). But I am guessing you don't find taking money to be a useful idiot on Iranian TV, or praising any anti-Western dictator you could name, or describing Hamas as "friends" all that bad.

The guy has an absolute fetish for any dictator or horrible regime as long as it's sufficiently anti-Western.

But right, Boris told some off-colour jokes and was a bit rude about people.

Pukkatea · 28/11/2019 13:37

It seems the only good thing people can say about Boris is that Corbyn is worse. What a horrible situation this country faces.

User342109097569098 · 28/11/2019 13:38

It was over 20 years ago.

Alsohuman · 28/11/2019 13:41

It was over 20 years ago

Oh, that’s all right then. Some people are still using a photo of Corbyn taken 35 years ago against him.

KidLorneRoll · 28/11/2019 13:47

"It seems the only good thing people can say about Boris is that Corbyn is worse. What a horrible situation this country faces."

Welcome to a country where the overriding narrative is driven by a right-wing media funded by the people who benefit from conservative governments.

Writersblock2 · 28/11/2019 14:11

@EvaHarknessRose so is Game if Thrones but I don’t see women coming out in droves to boycott that.

Do we have a link to BJ’s original article and not a secondhand account please? I’m surprised (not surprised) people make judgement without reading the source material for context.

PrinnyPree · 28/11/2019 14:21

Oh give it a break, Corbyn isn't anti West at all and as for the Hamas as friends you do realise he meant in diplomatic terms when he said "all friends must be invited" to discuss the two state solution, calling them a bag of murderous twats isnt the best diplomacy when getting someone round a negotiating table. Also what dictators has he actually praised then, gimme a quote, certainly not shaking hands with the Saudi dictator King Salmen and defending his human rights abuses just so we can flog them weaponary like BoJo has.

Horrific double standards.

KenDodd · 28/11/2019 14:25

You can, but don't expect it to make a single bit of difference to the number of people who vote for him.

BJ is a known liar, racist and misogynist, and his supporters love it.

KenDodd · 28/11/2019 14:27

Corbyn has done way, way worse in my opinion

What worse than arranging for a journalist to be beaten up?

birdsdestiny · 28/11/2019 14:31

Prinny I have been a labour voter all my life. Saying the tories are just as bad is a terrible terrible strategy. It will not work.
Corbyn needs to show that he is on the side of women, saying he is slightly better than boris is not good enough.

nibdedibble · 28/11/2019 14:35

YANBU - I mean they are all bad but Big Al is an absolute black hole of a man and to women you can add any minority group as well (except billionaires I suppose).

SilverySurfer · 28/11/2019 14:35

Why don't we have a [this is mind numbingly repetitive and boring] emote on MN?

Labour must have found a few coins down the back of the sofa this morning. Three threads on the first page.

MrsMaiselsMuff · 28/11/2019 14:41

@SilverySurfer You're on a female focused forum. If you find women's rights mind numbingly repetitive and boring, why are you here?!

PrinnyPree · 28/11/2019 14:51

Birds when did I say Tories are just as bad? I have yet to see anything that Corbyn has said that is comparable to the horrific things Johnson has come out with past or present. I am not even a Labour member and historically I voted Libs in 2010 (never again) and Greens in 2015 I am a massive floating voter and have no party allegiance. But the smears on Corbyn drive me up the wall. He seems like a thoroughly nice person that is at least trying to do good for us normal people (if not a bit ham fistedly some times in his presentation but thats all I can fault him on)

PrinnyPree · 28/11/2019 14:52

Christ the 12 month maternity pay and WASPI compensation is a good ruddy start on saying Corbyn's on our side. :/

SilverySurfer · 28/11/2019 15:18

You're on a female focused forum. If you find women's rights mind numbingly repetitive and boring, why are you here?!

No-one told me when I joined MN years ago that it's perfectly ok to bore everyone to death with multiple threads on the same subject on the front page. I'll have to see what I can come up with to join in.

justanotherlemontree · 28/11/2019 15:23

It was a column from 1995 - general views have changed - maybe his have?

Yes 1995, not 1955 Hmm

greenlavender · 28/11/2019 15:26

@Confusedbeetle - treating politicians like what? Quoting their written words, how is that crossing a line?!

birdsdestiny · 28/11/2019 17:29

You might want to google David Prescott, and the role of Corbyn's office in the issue. Johnson is terrible with regards to womens rights but saying that corbyn is not quite as bad is a tactic that will likely hand the victory to the tories.

Actionhasmagic · 28/11/2019 17:36

Yanbu he hates anyone who isn’t like him

Practicalmagico · 28/11/2019 17:37

As far as I can see neither Jeremy Corbyn or Jo Swinson likes women either
Absolutely.

ViciousJackdaw · 28/11/2019 17:47
