I’ve been meaning to post this all week, I got a text from my dc’s school on Monday saying that due to the electricity board doing work on Monday 2nd dec the school will have no electricity and therefore will be closed. AIBU to think that it’s a tad ridiculous and. They could have just done the work over the bloody weekend!!??

They could at least have organised an impromptu day trip to the museum or something

You have NO IDEA!!

OctoberLovers · 30/11/2019 14:17

Schools closed for polling days too...

Just one of those things

Organising an impromptu day trip to a museum (or anywhere!) for an entire primary school on one weeks notice sounds rather impractical!

Hopefully this was sarcastic? While I have complained that it's difficult to get childcare, this is so clearly not a solution. School trips are planned months in advance (heck, the teachers at DC school even had to risk assess our primary kids walking less than a mile to town) there is lots of admin, getting a % parents to pay before the trip can go ahead, finding a museum or other venue that can accommodate that many kids, DBS checked parent helpers, coach company, packed lunches for those on FSM etc etc

That's somewhat lacking in ambition, as it's nearly Christmas surely they could arrange a whole school trip to see the pantomime? Piece of cake.

Send them a rudely worded letter threatening to fine them for unauthorised absence. #oneruleforone

LolaSmiles · 30/11/2019 16:10

Brilliant idea minimum.
Then go to the local press holding the letter with an A grade compo face so you get into Angry People in Local Newspapers on Facebook.

It'll entertain us all greatly.

Teachers' Christmas shopping days Hmm is this actually a thing?

We never get get occasional days - any days without kids are inservice.

Schoolclosure · 30/11/2019 16:37

For the last time!!! It’s not the school I have the issue with...it’s the electricity board/ company!! And RTFT we are in Ireland so no fines for absences (thank goodness 🤣)

I think most posters understand that you aren’t having a go at the teachers OP.

But many of us are responding to the people coming up with ludicrous ideas of impromptu school trips and all teachers getting shopping days.
