Is this a deliberate strategy to desensitise us ? It feels like the past decade has been ramping up and up in terms of awful “surely this must be the end of them now” and still they carry on like a bunch of rich political zombies! Wtf is going on with the polls?

I’ll start with 3

Anyone remember Grenfell? Not just that the Tory council and Government we’re responsible for the policies and under funding that led to the cladding, the lack of maintenance on the building and the de funding of the fire service, but also Teresa May’s woeful response and the subsequent report fudge and Rees-Mogg’s recent comments?

Anyone remember a sitting prime minister bring found by the Supreme Court to have illegally suspended parliament, for the purpose of stopping debate for their own political advantage?

Anyone noticed that the Prime Minister is currently refusing to do his interview with Andrew O’neil? Despite the fact that Cibyn and Sturgeon’s have already been aired?

@Helmetbymidnight

I haven't got private health care because if your operation goes wrong you will end up being treated by the NHS anyway. I have paid to see Consultant privately because of the waiting list but I then have treatment on the NHS because I have paid my taxes.

Helmetbymidnight · 28/11/2019 07:49

Grin good for you.

How about lying why they are not releasing the report on Russian involvement in elections?

BlackeyedSusan · 28/11/2019 07:57

Hmm.. is it possible you will lose more on no deal brexitting if trade is not sorted by this summer than on raised taxes?

BlackeyedSusan · 28/11/2019 07:58

Easiest trade deal in history?

itwasalovelydreamwhileitlasted · 28/11/2019 07:58

You're being ridiculous
Do you think the labour government never lied about anything.......

noblegiraffe · 28/11/2019 08:02

Lying about an independent investigation into Islamophobia in the Tory party. Promised by Christmas?

ChaoticKate · 28/11/2019 08:10

I’m not suggesting that they all lie so we should ignore it.

What I am suggesting is that ALL politicians, especially those with the potential to be prime minister, should be subject to the same levels of scrutiny. I don’t like the Tories, but the constant and frankly tiresome narrative of suggesting that the Conservatives are baby eating monsters while good old JC represents the second coming is quite frankly ridiculous.

Yes, BJ is a misogynistic, odious liar. I think we all know that. But there’s seems to be a deafening silence on threads like this about issues such as the fact that JC has repeatedly shared platforms and sympathies with terrorists. There’s no comment on how an entire section of the community feels that their safety is so threatened by the Labour Party that many of them are contemplating leaving the country. And before the Momentum drones start frothing about right wing bias in the news media, no I don’t think that the Chief Rabbi gets his information from the Daily Mail.

Personally, I don’t think ANY of them are fit to lead. But, personally I can’t bring myself to support a party whose economic strategy can be summarised as ‘spend spend spend’.

I don’t support any of them. But I am very tired of these threads.

littlebillie · 28/11/2019 08:10

Labour NHS privatisation in 2003 - they started it and made it bedrock policy of their government.

Their money management policy

NO MONEY LEFT when they left power
🙄

no there isnt- its discussed all over themedia and on several threads on here, in which ive been on.

KizzyWayfarer · 28/11/2019 08:35

Politicians always lie but I agree Johnson is in a class of his own - doesn’t even try to sound plausible, and he never seems to face consequences from it.
But in terms of awful things, I was thinking more along the lines of Helmetbymidnight’s list, for example, the massive hardship caused by the roll out of Universal Credit l
The need for food banks
The increase in rough sleeping - walk round our cities and you can literally see the results of austerity huddled in doorways
The state they’ve got the NHS into
The treatment of terminally ill people forced to jump through hoops to claim benefits
Local authority budgets slashed resulting in cuts to basic services like buses.
Etc etc...
And no benefit to the economy from any of this suffering.
I’m scared shitless at what Johnson’s lot could do to us through a hard / no deal Brexit and trade deal with Trump, but all of the above was under Cameron/May.

I know people have reservations about Labour under Corbyn but if it’s a choice between increased investment in public services and slightly higher taxation, implemented with bog standard governmental levels of incompetence and spin, or Tory policies continuing to punish the poor and sick and decimate public services - plus the economic crash likely to accompany a hard Brexit, I know where my vote’s going.

Auberjean · 28/11/2019 08:45

JC is absolutely not anti Semitic:

Well, there certainly isn’t a deafening silence on it on the rest of Mumsnet, and certainly not on the rest of the media.

I’m no Corbyn sympathiser or fan. I’ll be voting Lib Dem. There is plenty to criticise Corbyn on. But this thread is about lying, and Corbyn is nowhere in Johnson’s league in that respect. Though misguided, IMO, I feel he is at least more of a man of principle, and his errors are errors of judgement, rather than outright and blatant attempts to hoodwink.

We can argue about policy points, and lying about them is bad enough, I agree. But subverting democracy itself by lying to parliament and the Queen, and preventing the electorate from finding out how a hostile foreign power has corrupted our own democratic processes is just another order of magnitude. And is absolutely outrageous and beyond the pale, even by the standards of politicians.

Trewser · 28/11/2019 09:10

If you genuinely feel as though you are "drowning" and you aren't actually a paid political researcher, then i suggest you shut down the pc and go for a walk and do something nice.

Tolleshunt · 28/11/2019 09:22

I’m interested as to why you always pop up on threads that are critical of Boris or Brexit, to advise posters to stop thinking about it, Trewser?

(Boris Johnson/Conservative Party 'lies'.)

Who cares if Jess Philips made the following statement in October 2019 instead of November 2019 (Good Morning Britain re-ran the recording which may have caused the confusion) - it's hardly a 'point score' for the Labour Party or their manifesto;

Jess Phillips Oct 2019
'there is an argument in saying that politicians can never ever deliver “all those things that you’re pretending you can deliver” in their party manifestos.'

bellinisurge · 28/11/2019 09:37

@Auberjean , he's very unlucky then isn't he. Praising a mural that is so obviously antisemitic and yet not noticing or considering the harm it perpetuates.

Trewser · 28/11/2019 11:07

Tolleshunt I would advise anyone struggling mentally (drowning) not to dwell obsessively (making a list) on anything.

I'd say exactly the same if she felt the need to make a list about JC.

Tolleshunt · 28/11/2019 11:21

How kind of you to dispense your wisdom.
