Is Diane Abbott still in the Labour Party?

We haven’t heard anything from her this campaign she seems to have gone missing?

Sadly, this odious woman is still up to her neck in the Labour Party and is standing yet again for re-election in Hackney North and Stoke Newington where the sheeplike constituents will most probably get what they deserve elect her.

After the rubbish she spouted in the run up to the last election, it seems that even JC knows that his former lover is far too much of a loose cannon to inflict on the wider population.

Fwiw, DA is Labour's Shadow Home Secretary. If she ever becomes Home Secretary it'll be a laugh or cry scenario and her already over-inflated ego will swell from hot air balloon proportions to those of a gigantic airship.

shirleyschmidt · 27/11/2019 22:00

Say what you really feel @DonKeyshot 🤣 Totally agree.

AntiHop · 27/11/2019 22:06

She was the first black woman ever in parliament. An amazing achievement.

Solihooley · 27/11/2019 22:08

I haven’t heard anything from any of the other candidates much. I wish they’d roll Kier Starmer out more. He’s a brilliant speaker and would appeal to a wider audience I feel. Diane Abbot is a fantastic and very long standing MP. She’s a trailblazer (first black woman MP) who has unfortunately put up with racism and hatred for her whole career.

MikeUniformMike · 27/11/2019 22:08

She's in the cereal cupboard with Jacob Ree-Smogg

Solihooley · 27/11/2019 22:09

I suppose most other key labour members are busy campaigning in their localities.

MikeUniformMike · 27/11/2019 22:11

Being the first black woman MP is quiite an achievement. I don't particularly agree with everything she says but I admire her for that.

WineIsMyCarb · 27/11/2019 22:17

Admiring what she has achieved in her career (particularly the racism she will have faced and occasionally still faces), is totally separate to my other observation that she is somewhat racist, has double-standards, speaks down to people in a patronising and supercilious manner and has not delivered success in role as a constituency MP in terms of improving the lot of her constituents.

WineIsMyCarb · 27/11/2019 22:21

Another way to look at the distinction between someone's career and their policies in role and them as a person is Margaret Thatcher.

Many mumsnetters hate her, many disliked a large number of her policies, a small number might align with her politics.

However, a woman with children becoming leader of the Conservative party in the 70s and then being PM for a decade or so. Absolutely unbelievably amazing achievement.

Very very few people are all good or all bad.

Clearly her constituents don’t agree with you, she took 75% of the vote in 2017.

PineappleDanish · 27/11/2019 22:24

After last time, they've probably realised what a liability she is.

AlphaJura · 27/11/2019 22:26

She was the first black female mp. No mean feat. She is also the most abused and attacked female mp. Not saying she's always been right but I think she deserves respect.

Alsohuman · 27/11/2019 22:27

Unlikely, her share of the vote has increased at all of the last three elections. She’s obviously a great constituency MP, which is what really matters.

Friendlyduvet · 27/11/2019 22:29

Donkeyshot, the people of Hackney vote for D. A because of the work she does. I am proud to live in one of the most diverse, exciting boroughs in London. We are not sheep, we are leaders in many areas.

CendrillonSings · 27/11/2019 22:31

She’s obviously a great constituency MP, which is what really matters.

She's Labour's candidate for Home Secretary - one of the Great Offices of State.

That means that if Corbyn wins, then in 2 weeks she'll be running our police, intelligence, and counter-terrorism forces.

And Labour's locked her in a basement, because they have literally no confidence in her... [hmmm]

WineIsMyCarb · 27/11/2019 22:33

Yes indeed @Alsohuman, they have consistently voted for her. That is quite distinct from her ability to improve their lot.

For the past decade Hackney and SN life expectancy, especially for men, has fallen away from the national mean several times over the last decade. The constituency continues to be rife with child poverty, infant mortality,, social and mental health problems etc:

Friendlyduvet · 27/11/2019 22:38

Alsohuman, you said it so much better than I.

WorldEndingFire · 27/11/2019 22:45

Yes, and how brilliant it is that she is! An astute woman who has overcome incredible odds and campaigned tirelessly for her community and for human rights. She's been amazingly active in her community, her majority speaks for itself and you can see her work via her Twitter if you've been hiding in a ditch missing it somehow.

Friendlyduvet · 27/11/2019 22:47

Horrid, prejudiced thoughts on here. This is why our country is in disarray, not because of socialism, you ignorant people. I bet you're getting a bit worried in case Labour does get in and your greed is noted.

dangerrabbit · 27/11/2019 22:50

Applaud for @Mistlewoeandwhine 👏

Katharinblum · 27/11/2019 23:24

Barely concealed racism. l
Fact that life expectancy has stalled in many areas of the country is likely due to the effects of austerity. What was it that the UN special rapporteur said about poverty in 2019 uk ? Systematic and tragic and the social safety net replaced with a harsh uncaring ethos ?

Craft74 · 27/11/2019 23:32

Yes it was achievement bring the first black female MP, so was Maggie being the first female PM. Both trailblazers. Just wondering where she is as she seems to have disappeared.
