To send DD to school with bad breath

My DD7 has been unwell since Sunday. Fever, sore throat and nausea. I kept her out of school Mon and Tues even though Tues she really wanted to go. Loves school. She said her throat isn't sore anymore even though I can see she definitely isn't herself. I thought she was on the road to recovery so sent her to school today. At pick up teacher said she was great all day until the very end when she got a bit tired. I was happy with that but noticed in the car her breath was awful. I could smell it from the front seat and can even smell it just walking past her. Sorry if TMI but it smells like poo. Is this a sign she's more unwell than I thought? Do you think I should keep her off again or send her in?
BTW it's nothing to do with oral hygiene. Well I'm fairly sure. She brushes twice a day and doesn't normally have any smell.

Just to add she still says her throat is not sore anymore

Has she drunk enough water? See what she’s like tomorrow morning.

Ravenrob · 27/11/2019 19:22

Can you see if her tonsils are covered in pus? Me and DS get this with tonsillitis.

Josephinebettany · 27/11/2019 19:33

She's drinking plenty but a reduced appetite

No pus (hate that word Grin) they do look a bit red and big. I think.

Id guess at tonsillitis. Look in her throat, breath that bad isn't normal.

biscuitsteaandgin · 27/11/2019 19:37

I’d be worried about bullying apart from anything else, if it’s that bad, but I’d be seeing the gp tomorrow.

InglouriousBasterd · 27/11/2019 19:38

Snot running down the throat does that for me and DD! It’s horrible.

Velveteenfruitbowl · 27/11/2019 19:38

Sounds like tonsillitis.

thistimelastweek · 27/11/2019 19:39

It's one symptom. For sure it would put me on alert but no more till the next symptom

SleepingStandingUp · 27/11/2019 19:39

I'd try and get her in GPS early if you can

bobstersmum · 27/11/2019 19:49

The only time I've known breath that bad was after ds had his tonsils out while they were scabby. It was terrible.
Other than that, if its not throat infection, could you be pregnant? When I am pregnant I can smell everything! Literally every smell, I'm like a fox!

foooookinghell · 27/11/2019 19:49

Tonsillitis or tooth infection

Josephinebettany · 27/11/2019 20:16

She now has about 4/5 spots under her bottom lip and about the same amount on the bridge of her nose... we got a letter for hand foot and mouth from school about 2 weeks ago. I'm wondering now if it's that. Her temp is up again. I know now I won't send her to school tomorrow. Prob shouldn't have sent her today. She seemed fine til this eve. Well except for the incredibly bad breath!

Whenever my dd was I'll she would get this. She also got a lot of constipation and I think when poorly her system would slow down. I would take it as an indication that she is under the weather and needs to rest.

Hope she feels better soon.

SalemShadow · 27/11/2019 21:16

Not to worry you but bad breathe like that can be a sign of bowel cancer.

Londonborncatty · 27/11/2019 21:21

It sounds like an infection of the throat. If it is a bacterial infection she may need antibiotics. Worth a trip to the GP.

FudgeBrownie2019 · 27/11/2019 21:23

DS2 often has tonsillitis and his breath is generally the first giveaway when it's on it's way. I'd get her checked over by the Dr if it's still like it once she's brushed her teeth in the morning.
