To be freaked out and wondering what this is?!

The last week or so I've been having some weird feelings in my lower abdomen that REALLY feel like early 'baby' movements. Rumbling, kicking, poking sort of sensations.

Just one problem....I'm not pregnant!! I have a mirena coil and have had for the past 10yrs, never had an issue with them. I do periodically take pregnancy tests just in case (once every 6 months or so at a rough guess) and I've taken one in the last month which was negative. It was a old, cheap one lying around in the back of the drawer but still, surely it's not a false negative?

The movements happen randomly and don't last that long, few minutes at most, no correlation with them and anything else it's all over the place. Had them again tonight and you can actually see my belly moving when it happens. As if I was pregnant and a real baby was moving around in there!

Aibu to be freaked out?! Does anyone have any idea what this could be if not a baby? Don't want to book a gp appointment for non painful weird belly pokings 😂

PS: I don't have gas, that was my first thought.

I know exafykh what you mean, mines just spasms and only ever did it since i had kids

DontGoIntoTheLongGrass · 26/11/2019 22:33

I get this alot and have done over last few years. It's my IBS. Feels like popping and kicking. I thought I also was pregnant Smile

MidnightMystery · 26/11/2019 22:33

Phantom kicks?

PrincessBattercup · 26/11/2019 22:39

Another one with IBS saying I get this all the time, it's weird though and I've been known to test and check. Also I get buildup of gas in my intestine which can feel like a mass, even more disconcerting!!

Haworthia · 26/11/2019 22:41

It’s your gut.

I get weird baby kick type sensations from time to time. I’m never pregnant, it’s my gut.

26mcjrfm · 26/11/2019 22:42

Mirena coil lasts for 5 years - I assume it’s not the same one??

If it is - book a scan!

ferntwist · 26/11/2019 22:44

OP don’t want to scare you but my close relative was born despite a Mirena coil (it was actually found embedded in the placenta at birth).

Velveteenfruitbowl · 26/11/2019 22:44

Regardless I think you need to see a doctor surely? That’s not normal. They’ll do a proper pregnancy test to rule that out first.

Lemononachair · 26/11/2019 22:47

Definitely not the same coil! I'm on my third one Grin

Ok maybe I should go to the gp, I'm worried I have worms now ShockConfused

I had this when I had an ulcer.

MiddleClassProblem · 26/11/2019 22:58

Maybe your gut is angry you e cut something out your diet? Is it demanding cake?

Lemononachair · 26/11/2019 23:02

@MiddleClassProblem I doubt it, I don't eat cake 😂

I haven't changed my diet recently, maybe cut down on junk food a bit but nothing major!

The movements are very low, right where my womb would normally be. I guess that could still be gut related but lower intestine-y.

I think I had this when I had the mirena, stopped when it was removed though! Not sure how it caused it!

ActualHornist · 26/11/2019 23:06

Spasms or wind moving about

Even if you don't have gas, it can still be gas. I get it fairly regularly. 100% not pregnant.

You'd be able to feel a mass of baby if it were baby. You need to use the flat of your hand to feel the belly area.

This is totally normal you don't need a doctor.

NameChange84 · 26/11/2019 23:09

I have IBS and get this all the time. Officially it was diagnosed as "peristalsis action". As a young teenager, I used to call it "the alien that lives in my stomach".

GabriellaMontez · 26/11/2019 23:09

You've just reminded me I had this a few months ago. It just went. Weird.

Bluerussian · 26/11/2019 23:10

PrawnofthePatriarchy: Apparently your colon can go into spasm and cause visible movement, as can stronger than usual peristalsis.

This.

Happens to me occasionally, always has.

To be sure go and see your GP but it might go away in a couple of days.

Span1elsRock · 26/11/2019 23:12

DH has this - he's got a hernia he's waiting for surgery on.

Thestrangestthing · 26/11/2019 23:14

Yes I get this a lot. No idea what it is. Don't get any wind pains or anything else, just as though something is moving in my lower belly. I have had a few "oh god I'm pregnant" moments but never have been.
