Sorry, posting in here for traffic. Dd is really struggling with her asthma and has been prescribed this today. The side effects can include depression and suicidal thoughts Sad she is anxious and a worrier as it is. Does anyone else take it?

Hey, just noted your DD is doing A levels. Is she registered as a disabled student? Her asthma sounds like it meets the threshold. If she is, then they have to make accommodations like send home work, require less coursework or extensions to deadlines.
Maybe talk to the sixth form SEN person?

I have taken it for about 18 months and my asthma has definitely improved. No side effects either

Yes it stopped immediately after I stopped taking them. I think it's worth trying as it did help my asthma hugely. But be mindful of the side effects to stop if needed.

My DS was in a clinical trial for this as a blocker for asthma and now has it on prescription. He doesn't take it regularly, but at the first sign of a cold or bad chest has to start a seven day course. It works brilliantly for him, no hospital admission since the trial (we assume he had the montelukast as from the off the attacks stopped and the Dr was happy for him to have it on repeat). I think like any drug it's a case of trying it and seeing how you get on with it. Good luck, it's hard being a parent of an asthmatic child however old they are.

I took it in the Spring only for 3 years in conjunction with the brown inhaler to treat hay fever induced asthma (awful coughing spasms mainly) and it totally worked for me. I don't remember having any side-effects at all but as I say I only took it for a couple of months each year.

Try it and see. Our DD took it and at that time they didn't put those side affects in the information. It was amazing for her asthma but she was out of control. She literally couldn't control herself (she was 13 at the time). She attacked me on many occasions - badly! Completely coincidentally we moved and she didn't have a prescription and as it was Summer her asthma was good and within weeks the behaviour stopped. Since then it has come out about the mood side affects.

There’s no guarantee either way that your daughter will or won’t suffer side effects. It would be worth trying and monitoring her though because uncontrolled asthma can be deadly.

PlanDeRaccordement thank you that's really helpful! She's at private school and so far the teachers have been brilliant and sending stuff through and being very reassuring.
