To not put the heating on for the cleaner?

It's 13 degrees today and feels very mild. I work from home and I'm perfectly comfortable. I don't like being too hot and we only put the heating on if it drops below 16 in the house. It's about 18 currently.

Anyway, just had an arsey message from the cleaning company saying my cleaner has complained about the cold and that all clients must ensure their houses are heated to at least 22 degrees whilst the cleaners are there.

AIBU to think this is ridiculous? I'm in the bloody house myself! Surely if I'm comfortable sitting at my desk, the cleaner (who is being active) should be able to cope?

The cleaner will get warm while working. I don't put mine on for my cleaner

We are not living in Victorian times! What an obnoxious comment!

It's the excessive use of the punctuation, !!!!, the ???? commas instead of apostrophes, as in don,t and not don't that shows me your angry messaging .... also the irrelevant comments about I was "in management and health and safety" .... so what?? 🤷‍♀️

Gil9 · 08/12/2019 15:40

Think about it for one moment, you accused me of being bitter. I pointed out to you that I have no reason to be bitter. Have you? I notice you failed to apologise. You accused me of being angry . I am not angry, and I did tell you that, still no apology. Lots of accusations, and nasty putdowns, on your part, not mine. Why? In Management and Health and Safety so I understand what should happen in a working enviroment, does not always happen. So you would understand that I know what I am taking about. I.m not expecting an apology any time soon.

spanglydangly · 08/12/2019 16:33

I have no reason to apologise at all @Gil9 your posting proves your bitterness and anger, you telling me you're not angry or bitter whilst doing all the whole !!!!!!!!! and ????? is ridiculous. Your whole writing style up until the last one proved anger especially the , instead of '!

Why should the OP think herself lucky or do it herself? She can and does afford to employ someone to do it, now whilst I'm out of the house when my cleaner is about, if I was in the house like OP is I'd want to work in a comfortable temperature.

It's hardly a health and safety issue working at 18 degrees and expecting to work at 22 degrees which the majority on this post would find too hot is ludicrous.

Health and safety issue? Explain where? Was OP causing one...?

18 would be far too cold for me, even if cleaning.

20 could be a starting point to compromise perhaps.

I have my car set to 22 which feels nice. House is hard to judge here as it's three story so have to set it fairly low - and by that I mean 17/18 hence why I think your 18 is probably too cold - so first and second floor aren't too hot, but we have a heater in the kitchen/diner downstairs to make up for it.

I hate being cold. And I hate having to be bundled up in tons of layers in the house.

I had an airbnb guest like this. I have my heating on at 18-19 C for a couple of hours in the morning and evening. If it is really cold I put it on for a bit at lunchtime.

I'd be cold, and would not be happy, especially if I'd booked somewhere for a short break or holiday. It's been normal in all rental properties I've stayed in to be able to control the temperature yourselves though sometimes with recommendations. I'm afraid I'd also have been complaining too.

Mind I've never stayed in an air B&B, and never stayed in a place shared with the owner. I'm not sure if that's what you mean regarding the heating control.

I get it. Finally. You are always right, never wrong, never ever wrong.

spanglydangly · 08/12/2019 17:04

@Gil9 not in this case, no I'm not. 😂 👍

Aragog · 08/12/2019 17:05

Not if you're a healthy adult and wear appropriate winter clothes. Which means wool layers, this time of year.

But who really wants to be bundled up in layers when they are inside. Certainly not on my own home.

I put up with some colder temperatures at work sometimes but they're much better at getting the heating on theses days so generally fine.

But at home - not a chance. I like to relax in PJs or lounge wear and have my foot up on the sofa. We don't wear shoes in the living room and bedrooms, only on the ground floor where the kitchen is. I like bare feet.

When growing up we had times where money was really tight, and we didn't have central heating until I was about 10. Even then only downstairs til I was a fair bit older. It was no fun being cold.

I can afford to be warm now so I am. So I have my heating on to a nice temperature which allows me to wear what I like and be warm.

The 13c is for rigorous physical work. Cleaning shouldn't come under rigorous. Physical yes, but what state are your houses in for it to be rigorous!?!

Gil9 · 08/12/2019 17:16

You enjoy arguing, as I said earlier. I do not. Bored with you now.

spanglydangly · 08/12/2019 17:19

@Gil9 bye 👋 then.
