Should I complain to his employer?

I'm in a taxi for work

The driver is talking non stop. Really won't even stop for breath.

That in and of itself is driving me mad, I wish he'd give me some peace and quiet.

He's currently going on in detail about how he thinks criminals should be punished. Murderers dropped in shark infested waters, rapists have their balls cut off with a rusty knife, thieves have their hands cut off 'like they do in South africa'.

I really don't want to listen to this bullshit, I shouldn't have to. It is ugly and offensive

I'm trapped in his car, I don't feel I can ask him to stop his vile chit chat

AIBU to phone up his taxi company and ask them to have a word and tell him that I didn't appreciate his small talk and think it is inappropriate?

Remember you need to stop off somewhere and ask him to pull over and get out. If you are feeling vulnerable then definitely complain to whomever he works for - if self employed the taxi association (or whatever it is).

Safeguarding training 😂 MN really love to throw that word around

My OP was written in the taxi, subsequent posts when I'd processed and was out of the immediate environment. By then I'd thought about how vulnerable I was, at the time I guess I had a bit of adrenalin?

@BarbourellaTheCoatzilla I posted because I was interested in people's opinions. Not because I wanted to ask permission off every single person on the Internet before doing something

It's a chat forum, I was chatting. Some people agreed with me, some disagreed.
This exchange has been interesting to me and has helped me crystallize how I think about something

I'm sorry if that bothers you, but no need to be a keyboard warrior and tell me off. The Internet would be pretty boring if everyone agreed with everyone and no one ever tried to change anyone's mind.

Erm yes taxi drivers HAVE to attend safeguarding training. They are often are in the company of the vulnerable and under 18's and have to report incidents to the police.

Not sure why that is amusing Hmm

If you were able to post at length in the taxi, during the day i can't see how it could have been so threatening you couldn't have asked him to stop so that you could concentrate. Why is a polite request confrontational?

I’ve been in that situation before. And I did actually complain. Seems that’s an unpopular choice, but like you I felt vulnerable and intimidated and couldn’t wait for the journey to be over. It’s not the same as other situations, the taxi driver has all the power.

How is he supposed to know you don't like the chat unless you tell him? If you complain to his boss he'll likely never chat to anyone making his job far less enjoyable and also people who like chatting to their cabbie. It's fine if he annoys you but just interrupt and day "so sorry, terrible migraine/ email to reply to etc so can we just have a few mins of silence

I had a driver recently that I complained to the company about, I didn’t feel able to say anything at the time. I emailed evidence to back it up, doubt they’ve done anything though
