Black Friday this, Black Friday that. My inbox is totally raging with it, ads for it keep jumping off the screen at me, and even mundane stuff such as employment agency courses seem to be in Black Friday deals.
Is it a big con anyway? Are the discounts really as great as they say? Have the prices actually been steadily increasing, and on "Black Friday" they're merely at their normal levels for one day, before sneaking up again on "Grey Saturday"? Are the "before" prices shown actually bigger than they really were? All I see is that it makes shopping even more stressful than usual, including online: websites overloaded, deliveries more likely to be delayed, and so on.
Buying anything on "Black Friday" to me feels like doing a deal with the devil. I'm sure that the targeted sales adverts work differently to how they usually do: most of the time, they show you things they think you'll need. Now I'm sure they're trying to flog me stuff that I wouldn't dream of buying, but that I might succumb because it's Black Friday.
Yes, I know, my cynicism and frugality would make Scrooge proud, and there are bigger problems in the world, such as politicians trying to tempt us in similar ways. Rant over: nurses white knuckles from tightening the purse strings, and retires to counting house.
