To be annoyed by a man whistling loudly in a coffee shop

I've just had to leave a pret as a bloke sat down with a coffee and started continually whistling loudly whilst reading a newspaper. Was oblivious to stern looks given by several other tables. I hate attention seeking idiots like this. Lucky I was using an rreusable cup so walked. Anyone else hate this?

Yes,I've noticed this thing with people using their phone on loudspeaker more and more lately. Seems to be particularly prevalent on buses and in coffee shops. I've also noticed an increase in people playing music out loud on their phones, again this usually seems to be on buses. On the rare occasion that another passenger asked them politely to turn it down,a nasty argument ensued, with the the man who'd been subjecting everyone to rap music, calling the woman an interfering, fat bitch! It's hardly surprising people are reluctant to say anything.

A simple dude please you're whistling is very loud would have probably done the trick I said similar to an irritated and very irritating fingernail tapper on the bank queue yesterday.

Mavis88 · 24/11/2019 19:20

It's a cafe use by the public, for the public!
Will people stop saying to tell the staff! They whistler was not hearing anybody so stop moanin and get a grip! If ur on the next table and it's really getting on your nerves cos ur trying do some work then grow a pair and, ask the whistler to stop.
If u want a coffee in silence. Then do me a favour and stay at home!
You lot have convinced me, I am now i glorified whistler. Coffee drinkers be warned!

Sushi123 · 24/11/2019 20:02

I tend to think that whistlers are attention seeking assholes

GunpowderGelatine · 24/11/2019 20:03

YANBU someone was doing this on the train the other day, and that really annoying birdsong type whistle too Angry

GunpowderGelatine · 24/11/2019 20:06

My XH used to whistle through his teeth almost continuously whatever he was doing. I don't know if he was doing it to annoy (strong possibility) or was oblvious (weaker possibilty). But one of the things I enjoyed most after we split up was to be able to relax in quietness wihtout someone hissing like a tone deaf snake in the next room

@KurriKurri I'd have divorced the fucker too (and I chuckled at tone deaf snake Grin)

GunpowderGelatine · 24/11/2019 20:11

I’d have thrown my coffee at him in a rage.'

Really?

Then you could have caused serious burns.
And been done for assault or gbh or something

Does anyone remember when MN used to be fun? Now you can't make a flippant comment without some passive aggressive sadact getting the jump

Greenglassteacup · 24/11/2019 20:13

Even worse if he was whistling through his teeth, aaaarrggghhhhh

FizzyIce · 24/11/2019 20:21

I have misophonia so would dumped my coffee in his lap before leaving

FizzyIce · 24/11/2019 20:23

*would've
And just being dramatic ,obviously but noises like that drive me to distraction

campion · 24/11/2019 20:27

It's like territorial behaviour in birds and my unscientific observation is that it's almost always men.
I would actually like to tell them to stfu but usually make do with the odd dirty look.

I do have a long list of unwelcome noises in public places though, from noisy crisp eaters through incessant tippy tapping laptops on trains to ignored wailing babies John Lewis always has several
Obviously I need help. Or earplugs.

HeresMe · 24/11/2019 20:27

I hate whistling is annoying, you aren't doing dock of the bay so just piss off. People seem to creat noise piss off.

Mavis88 · 25/11/2019 10:07

@Rosehip10 I dont recall saying i didnt give a F**K about the post. I just said its the title of a book im reading and was recomending it for the person who left the original post (and any anyone else who has a problem with petty issues, such as whitling)
If I didn't care, then I wouldn't of posted. Even if you are forcing your self NOT to care, the act of not caring means you care (a little) about the issue in some way.
People shouldn't need to feel that they have to hand out a servey, when entering coffee shops, titled: what are you thoughts and opinions on whistling in coffee shops. The man was probably happy. I'm sure whitling was a great way to spread cheerful joy before the Internet came along!
When ever you see or hear someone whistles in a public place. think of me! Thankyou for the award, i am a true winner in this game called Life! 😊

Whistling pisses me off because it tends to be on a certain pitch that can cause feedback in my hearing aids. This can be painful at times.

Keep the whistling outside, and not in a coffee shop.
