Why do so many parents take their kids to Claire’s to get their ears pierced? You’re surely more likely to get a better and more hygienic environment, better aftercare and a better trained piercer at a specialist shop.

Your outrage is misplaced. It was the tattoo parlour insisting on this, not me. I hadn't even thought about it but I thought it was quite sweet that they were taking such care.

I just got my little girls ears pierced. I asked for recommendations and did some research. I got hers done by a professional piercer with a needle. Claire's is not where you should go. My eldest got her ears pierced there 16 years ago and the earring got stuck and it was awful.

Always go to a real studio, guns can’t be cleaned properly.
And Claire’s staff learn on teddy bears and each other.

Always go to a reputable salon rather than a high street chain, where it's in the shop window!
Certificates should be on display to prove that the person is qualified to do the piercing and licensing from local council aswell. (My daughter is qualified hears plenty horror stories)
