New Egyptian Cotton Bedding - surely it shouldn't be this creased! What am I doing wrong!

Ok so I know this is definitely a first world problem but we've just bought a much awaited new bed. New mattress arrives next week (until then we are using the old too small one which was just bad timing on ordering the new mattress) and I went all out and ordered a new duvet and new 600 thread Egyptian cotton duvet cover and pillowcases.

AIBU for thinking that having spent a small fortune on the duvet cover it shouldn't look like a screwed up rag after washing at 40 degrees and low heat tumble drying?

Please tell me I'm doing something wrong and what will make it less creased without ironing it every time? I work full time and I really don't have the energy or time to iron it every time it's changed? Help please wise mumsnet!?

I have a press which is perfect for bedding. You have to iron cotton bedding if you want to to look good.

Userzzzzz · 24/11/2019 13:28

My expensive cotton bedding generally looks shite because I can’t be bothered to iron it. Our cheaper set looked better. We also splurged on a down duvet and we get bits of feather everywhere still. Bedding is one area I wouldn’t bother to spend a lot again.

I bought some really expensive heavy cotton bed linen and that too is a bastard to iron. The only way I can get it presentable is to steam iron it reallllly slowly, leaving the iron pressed in each place for several seconds. Takes me ages 🙈

Is it the Soak and Sleep one? If so it ceases horribly. I just put up with the creases though as it's so comfy and life is too short to iron superking bedding.

KenAdams · 24/11/2019 16:52

Creases not ceases!

Frouby · 24/11/2019 16:57

I have Sheridan bedding, and apart from a linen set I have that is a bit crumpled round the trim, I have never had to iron it.

It doesn't look as luxurious as hotel bedding but after a night it looks absolutely fine.

I've got some lovely high thread count bedding that I don't iron and I don't think it's really creased but then we don't have a tumble dryer. I just hang mine over the heated airer and fold it and smooth it while it's still warm.

clarehhh · 24/11/2019 21:59

You have to iron and best not to tumble if possible or it will be very creased.Luckily my husband loves high thread count bedding and will iron .Currently have some 1000 thread count softer now but like thick card when first bought.

spacepyramid · 24/11/2019 22:02

I line dry it no matter what time of year it's never creased and doesn't need ironing.

MrsT1405 · 24/11/2019 22:07

Gotten needs ironing. Dh and I both like ironed sheets and we both iron most things anyway. Stuff drys really quickly here in Spain, so it needs a good steaming.

Paintedmaypole · 24/11/2019 22:23

Pure cotton bedding does crease badly and need ironing. Unless you are prepared to do that ctton polyester mix looks much better. Pure cotton only feels luxurious if ironed

stucknoue · 24/11/2019 22:37

Toss it in the tumble dryer for 10 mins on low. Never use fabric conditioner

stucknoue · 24/11/2019 22:39

Mines 400tc and never seen an iron and no creases

CSIblonde · 24/11/2019 23:11

According to staff at Cotton & Cologne, iron while on the bed is the only way. I was eyeing up what'd hopefully be in the sale, come Boxing Day & got chatting to sales girl re how pure cotton creases like feck.

shouldntBeButIAm · 24/11/2019 23:36

@KenAdams it is indeed the Soak and Sleep one!

@Dive well I did buy cotton bedding and I am complaining about ironing! Smile

If I had more time I wouldn't mind ironing but I really don't (work full time, 3.5hr commute in total and a 5 and 6 year old!). I just wanted my bed to feel nice as I don't get much else for me!

But thank you so much everyone for all of the replies and tips.

It's super king but I'm going to try no fabric conditioner and identifying some way of hanging it! We have no outside line but hopefully I can come up with something!

I am also going to take the tip of all those saying to embrace it! It feels lovely and if need be I'll just dim the lights! Grin
