Left with one week to sort out child care - AIBU?

Hey folks.

Just looking to see if I'm over reacting a little or if I'm right to be annoyed here.

I've started a new job quite recently and while training I had standard hours that didn't change, but knew eventually I would be put on rota'd hours that could range from 8-8. Which I was fine with as I assumed they would give me notice about what those shifts would be.

So due to be put on rota'd shifts as on the start of December, but they still haven't let me know what my shifts will be as they haven't completed the rotas yet.

I would hope they would have the rotas done by Monday afternoon but I haven't had any confirmation that this is the case - when I asked last time they said I'd know yesterday.

I don't like to be pushy. But AIBU in thinking that leaving someone with a week to arrange child care for a toddler is a bit shit?

I once worked a job where they put out the Monday-Sunday schedule sometime on Sunday. Not always early on Sunday. You were still expected to show up for your assigned shift on Monday. I didn’t have kids and it was still extremely difficult.

I would defiantly press this with them and explain you need to know in advance to arrange childcare. They can’t leave you in the lurch like they are doing! Is there any policy relating to flexible working works you can check?

Would need to check through the policy documents when I'm in the office - there most likely is. I think I just blindly believed that the very least amount of notice that I would be given is two weeks as I'm sure that's what they said in the interview... Infact I'm sure they said 4 weeks but another new start said they were told 2 weeks so I am doubting myself there.

What did they say at interview? I’m a manager in hospitality, I always make a point at interview that rotas are completed in line with the business needs and I wouldn’t always be able to provide a rota with notice (due to last minute events, increase in room sales ect). Some weeks the Sunday-Saturday rota would not be out until the Friday before, although I try to give 3weeks notice.
