Prince Andrew question (again!)

Butterfly98 · 23/11/2019 18:26

Yes I know there are a few threads about PA but none that I have seen have answered this question! Can he refuse to be interviewed by the FBI if asked or would they think it was unreasonable to refuse in his situation? Also, if he had to be interviewed could he do so via video link or would he physically have to be in the USA?

What happens if a common man was friends with a paedo and accused of having sex with an underaged person? Wouldn’t he be arrested??

Genuinely curious.

Dreamersandwishers · 23/11/2019 19:31

Well absolutely no sympathy for the man - he needs to step up - but why would he have to go to US, when diplomat / spy’s wife kills a Brit and doesn’t have to come here?

Seriously, we don’t need to be kowtowing to Trump ( again no sympathy...)

HannahBananaa · 23/11/2019 19:34

I totally understand him having sex with her would have been entirely wrong but she wasn’t underage, she was 17. So I guess the charges he would face would be very different to those Epstein faced?

Hefzi · 23/11/2019 19:36

Would they not have to begin extradition if he doesn't go voluntarily?

And to PP, no, you don't get arrested automatically if someone raises an allegation against you, even a regular individual. If there was additional evidence, they'd likely question you first, and then decide on an arrest. Where the alleged crime took place overseas, I think you would need an arrest warrant to begin extradition, if someone declined to be questioned - and there may not be enough evidence for that.

(He's long been sleazy, grin and entitled; however, I suspect it's his access to good legal advice that's protecting him atm, rather than his minor royal one)

TheGirlFromStoryville · 23/11/2019 19:45

Apparently he could be questioned (initially?) at the US embassy in London, which has permanent FBI staff there.

Whether he does or not is another story.
Apparently the French authorities also want to question him over similar allegations.

I think there's a whole lot more to come out.

Butterfly98 · 23/11/2019 19:50

Yes @TheGirlFromStoryville I agree with you. I think the Queen acted quickly this week as she knows that there's a lot more to come out. Maybe she demanded PA give her more information or she got wind of it some other way.

OP posts:
Hefzi · 23/11/2019 19:58

He'd still have to voluntarily attend the Embassy, which I cannot imagine he'd want to do - or be advised to.

I would have thought his security logs would have had to be kept for a certain amount of time - if so, if I were him, I would produce them to shut down the speculation. Mind you, they may well be destroyed every year or something - so he may no longer have them to prove he is innocent. Or, of course...

CSIblonde · 23/11/2019 20:00

Going off past history, it'll probably be an interview from or at his home like when the Queen suddenly, handily 'remembered' Princess Diana giving unwanted possessions to butler Paul Burrell, who'd been accused of stealing. They knew if he testified he'd likely spill some v dodgy secrets having been found suicidal with pills etc in a layby) . An interview at his residence via video link with his lawyer present would probably do it .

John470322 · 23/11/2019 20:01

I saw part of the interview and when he said "My friendship with Epstein gave me many opportunities" I felt sick as I thought he meant may chances to rape underage girls.
I hope the FBI do get to question him and if he is guilty her serves a long time in a US jail as that will be some satisfaction to the girls who were abused. In the interview he never once said it was bad that Epstein was a paedophile, he seemed not to care about the innocent victims.

MabelMoo23 · 23/11/2019 20:02

@HannahBananaa even though she was 17, one the instances she claimed to have had sex with PA was in Palm Beach Florida, of which the age of consent under Florida state law is 18

So yes, 17 would’ve been under age

CrapTVAddict · 23/11/2019 20:39

Why do people think the queen is ashamed of him and will do the right thing and will put her country first and do her duty etc etc?..
If she cared about United Kingdom and 'her people' she would help the people living and dying in poverty thanks to the austerity policies she has sat and watched the Tories implement.
She had the nerve to give a queens speech about us all living within our means whilst she has her palace refurbished and people are dying yards away from her palace paid by taxpayers.
It's laughable people think the queen gets pissed of with the antics of Boris Johnson as well and will step in!
The royal family are Tories and think the laws don't apply to them and commoners should be seen not heard.
This will all be covered up and forgotten about in weeks

Tun55 · 23/11/2019 20:45

And still no one remembers the memorable pizza express party. Not one member of staff, not one member of public, no cctv, no pics taken by anyone ever! It’s just his word that makes him innocent - isn’t it? That way all criminals will have plenty of alibi (s)!!

SmileyGiraffe · 23/11/2019 20:47

I think the method of funding the royals should be renamed the "savile list".

ticking · 23/11/2019 21:03

@Tun55 His movements will have been "tracked" and recorded, mainly as he will have been accompanied by security and police, as will his daughter. I can't imagine him coming out with that if he wasn't certain....

Selfsettling3 · 23/11/2019 21:07

The pizza express party finished long before the trip to the Tramp nightclub so he could have easily done both.

Pilipilihoho · 23/11/2019 21:13

There's some discussion from lawyers about possible outcomes/scenarios here www.thetimes.co.uk/article/prince-andrew-no-chance-of-royal-immunity-mrw0lmw8z

Bottom line seems to be that it's a civil matter in the US (they're suing Epstein's estate)

GREATAUNT1 · 23/11/2019 21:13

I’d do a swap with USA, we get the woman who killed Harry Dunn & they can have him.

Passthecherrycoke · 23/11/2019 21:17

The fbi haven’t said they want to talk to him (publicly) the people who are suggesting the night want to are the victims lawyers suing his estate.

StoneofDestiny · 23/11/2019 21:21

"Andrew is a bit of a plonker, everybody knows that,” said one source close to the palace. “There’s no way he should have been allowed to do that interview. They should have just sent him off to Australia. That would have been a bloody good idea. Out of sight, out of mind” (Guardian)

Don't think Aussies want him! (What a recommendation from a palace source 😂)

emilybrontescorsett · 23/11/2019 21:24

Why on earth should we allow the FBI the right to question British citizens, when they protect murderers and refuse point blank to extradite them. Trump has stated he will not hand over any US citizen to another country full stop. He used this in his election campaign.

VanGoghsDog · 23/11/2019 21:40

And still no one remembers the memorable pizza express party. Not one member of staff, not one member of public, no cctv, no pics taken by anyone ever!

He only says he dropped off his daughter, not sure many people would have seen him. Parents don't hang around at these things do they?

Duck90 · 23/11/2019 21:56

And still no one remembers the memorable pizza express party. Not one member of staff, not one member of public, no cctv, no pics taken by anyone ever!

The pizza express alibi is worthless as it happened around about 4pm. For the rest of the evening he says he was at home. Still plenty of time in the night to be involved in what is alleged. I would expect the “party” happened much later than 4 pm.

Pilipilihoho · 23/11/2019 22:25

Why should poor Australia be stuck with yet another of our criminals? British Antarctica, maybe Grin
