To consider cancelling this 2 week referral (breast lump)

I found a lump a couple of weeks ago in my right breast. It was hard and obvious, i went to the GP who got a second opinion and both agreed to push me through to a breast clinic urgently.

I have my appointment next week but the lump seems to have migrated deeper into the breast and potentially shrunk? Basically i can feel it if i roll my hand over it but can't grab hold of it anymore. And i think only i can feel it because i know that's where it was. Fortunately i did take a photo when i first found it so can show them that.

My thoughts originally were that it was a very blocked vein (seemed to be right along the line of a big one) but dear ol' Google says that cancer can cause blocked veins in the breast.

AIBU to consider calling and saying i don't want to waste their time or should i just go anyway? I'm embarrassed about turning up for them to say "what lump" and know the NHS is overstretched as it is Blush

Go and get it checked out. Better safe than sorry

ILoveRubble · 22/11/2019 22:08

No, don't cancel. 100% go. This is not wasting NHS time. Please go

Shouldbedoing · 22/11/2019 22:08

Please just go. You won't find peace of mind until this is properly checked out.

myusernamewastakenbyme · 22/11/2019 22:09

Please go....99% chance it is a hormonal cyst but just in case its not....
It will also put your mind at rest...if you dont go it will niggle away in the back of your mind x

MaraScottie · 22/11/2019 22:10

You need to go OP. Have it checked out. Best case it's absolutely nothing, but please dont ignore it.

I had a check for something similar recently, lump was gone by the time the apt came around but it's still really important to get a scan and get it checked.

Tiredmum100 · 22/11/2019 22:10

Go! You cant be sure of anything. You'll only worry if you don't get it checked. (If it makes any difference I'm a NHS nurse and would say you're not wasting anyones time).

Doryhunky · 22/11/2019 22:10

Go. I know someone with breast cancer who couldn’t feel her lump

Wolfiefan · 22/11/2019 22:11

Do go. Depending on your age and when you found the lump the difference may be due to your cycle. If it is and you don’t go then you will be back to the GP in a couple of weeks. (I say this as the owner of a pair of harmless but lumpy boobs. Blush)
Good luck.

Mamimawr · 22/11/2019 22:11

Don't cancel. You were worried enough to go to see your gp and your gp thought you should be seen. Please go, you won't regret going even if it's just to stop you worrying.

PeterRouseTheFleshofMankind · 22/11/2019 22:13

Definitely don't cancel - they will know that your GP was concerned enough to refer you.

Minionoftheantichrist · 22/11/2019 22:17

Definitely you need to go. Your GP has referred you. You can’t assume the lump has shrunk. Hopefully and most likely it’ll be fine but it would be crazy to ignore it on the basis you think it’s decreased in size. The hospital will absolutely not view your visit as a waste of their time and resources. Two of my closest friends are still around because they did get breast lumps checked. The price of not going is potentially devastating.

justasking111 · 22/11/2019 22:18

Don`t cancel it will worry you and a check will ease your mind as it did mine.

FirstTicket · 23/11/2019 04:18

Thank you all so much, I’ll attend the appointment, fingers crossed. I’m sure it’s all fine

Rubyupbeat · 23/11/2019 04:35

No...get it checked please!
I had one in my armpit that had disappeared by the time my appointment arrived (within 2 weeks)
I apologised to the staff, but they said I did the right thing.

JoObrien7 · 23/11/2019 04:59

@FirstTicket

Please get it checked. I lost my mum in her early 40s because a Doctor didn't spot her breast cancer had returned in her lungs and bones. It was the most horrible time of my life to watch her die while looking after my toddler daughter. I still miss her 30 years later.

lumpy76 · 23/11/2019 05:07

Mum very small lump had completely gone by the time I got to the clinic!! Still had a mammogram and ultrasound to make sure - all clear obviously - dx it was a cyst that has gone now. You still have the lump go and get it checked. Xx

lumpy76 · 23/11/2019 05:07

My not mum 🙄

Frenchw1fe · 23/11/2019 05:20

You must go.
Ive had many breast lumps over the years, fortunately all cysts, and like you felt I was wasting everyone’s time.
The doctors at the clinic have always told me to take every lump seriously and you must do the same.
Good luck.

BlueJava · 23/11/2019 05:29

Please go! I had to be re-checked 3 times thankfully all negative. But it will put your mind at rest as well.

MinnieMountain · 23/11/2019 06:55

The majority of lumps are not cancerous but you just never know. Let the professionals tell you.

SpicyRibs · 23/11/2019 06:58

Breast lumps notoriously difficult to palpate properly.

100% you must attend. Much better to be told it's nothing than in 1 year it's 'something'...

longwayoff · 23/11/2019 07:23

Please go. I had a small breast lump which turned out to be an early cancer. However, when operating, the surgeon found a much more advanced tumour which had gone unnoticed through mammograms and other diagnostics. Clear for 6 years now. Please go.

Countryescape · 23/11/2019 07:52

How old are you OP? They’ll either do an ultrasound or mammogram or both. It is not a waste of time and no one you see will think that. Trust me I work in this industry and we all feel the more women come the better. Screening saves lives. Please go xx

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 23/11/2019 07:55

Yabu. Please go to it.

MarshaBradyo · 23/11/2019 07:56

Go. I had a lump which disappeared after stopping bfding thankfully but always good to check.
