Christmas- box fillers???

whattodo2019 · 22/11/2019 20:33

I'm thinking of buying my nieces and god daughters one of these boxes each for Christmas with their name on.
What can I fill them with? The boxes cost £22 each and ideally I don't want to spend more than £3 on the fillers.
The girls are aged 10-13
The 13 is vegan and coeliac

Please inspire me!!!

Haribo, hair clips, lip balm, Christmas decoration, tea light, mini shower gel/bubbles, posh tea bag, printed photo of you all

Stinkycatbreath · 22/11/2019 22:08

Op knows her nieces and has decided that they will like them people saying its a waste of money. Button up. Lovely idea that they could still use after Christmas.

57mama · 22/11/2019 22:44

Lip balm/gloss (can get a multipack fairly cheap and split it)
Chocolates/sweets
Scrunchies
Nail polish
Hair accessories
Earrings (bit pricier but you can get away with just having a pair of earrings in there)
Wristbands (my girls love these, similar ages to your nieces/goddaughters)
Bath bombs

Good luck finding things - try Asda or Primark xx

Namechangeforthiscancershit · 22/11/2019 22:46

£3 on each filler or £3 in total?

EskewedBeef · 22/11/2019 22:58

£3 isn't going to fill the box with anything worthwhile, so why not leave them empty? A handful of cheap sweets and very cheap cosmetics isn't going to add anything.

Themazeoflife · 22/11/2019 23:06

You can make the same box yourself for around £5, The Works sell the plain boxes and the stars and the letters.

Line the box with tissue paper and fill with a pack of sweets, hot chocolate packet and a book each.

Springersrock · 22/11/2019 23:57

They’re lovely. I’d just put some sweets in there

My girls were given boxes similar to these about 10 years ago - they were handmade by my Dad

They’ve been used to store all sorts over the years, currently - one DD stores nail polish in here, the other keeps her vast collection of hair scrunchies in it.

NachoFries · 23/11/2019 07:27

Not sure if you can get much with just £3 worth of fillers for each person. You might need to go for a smaller box that costs less and then put one good quality item in it or if say you have 5 nieces and goddaughters or however many...instead of spending £3 for each person, pool the money that you’d spend on each person and buy something like these and spread them out for each box:

  • An assortment of their favorite candy
  • Chocolate coins
  • Cookies wrapped in tissue paper - can be homemade cookies.
  • Cute rings/jewellery - you can get one or two ring sets and split them up so each box gets one or two rings and maybe even make origami boxes for the rings
  • Hot chocolate
  • Lip balm/lip butter - you could buy a set and split it into the different boxes
  • Mini candy canes
  • Making plastic cones with marshmallows - the cone can be placed inside a mug
  • Some cute stationery
  • Some warm and fuzzy socks
  • Their favourite chocolate bar with a personalised note stuck on the back
Elodie2019 · 23/11/2019 07:32

How are you sure they will love the boxes? They look very dull.

Elodie2019 · 23/11/2019 07:34

Agree re. 'The Works'

notsohippychick · 23/11/2019 07:35

God what a bunch of miseries. These are lovely and when I was that age I loved this sort of thing.

notsohippychick · 23/11/2019 07:36

Tiger sell sweet things for a budget. Have you got one near you?

Elodie2019 · 23/11/2019 07:41

Buy these, paint white, stick a star and name on using letter stickers,
fill with a £22 gift...

Christmas- box fillers???
WineOrGinOrBoth · 23/11/2019 07:42

My girls would have loved those when younger. I’d put in mini nail varnishes or mini lipstick.

WineOrGinOrBoth · 23/11/2019 07:42

Aren’t they wooden boxes not cardboard?

Elodie2019 · 23/11/2019 07:43

Notsohippychick

Just can't understand why £22 for the box but a really tight budget for the contents.

Elodie2019 · 23/11/2019 07:44

I think they are wooden. Also about as useful as a cardboard alternative!

Morgan12 · 23/11/2019 07:47

You could make these type of boxes for much less than £22.

Dishwashersaurous · 23/11/2019 07:56

The surprise is that the poster wants to buy a really really expensive box, and then only a tiny budget to fill it.

Honestly if you think that they will love the boxes it’s probably better to leave them empty so they know that the box is the present

neverornow · 23/11/2019 07:57

OP hope you're not put off by some of the unnecessarily negative comments above!

Just remembered - I am also adding a framed photo of my nieces together for their gift. I managed to get a nice pic of them together a few weeks ago and I'm just using small photo frames that I had lying around here at home.

Elodie2019 · 23/11/2019 08:11

OP hope you're not put off by some of the unnecessarily negative comments above!

The comments are not unnecessarily negative at all.
The box is very plain and dull.
I could understand if it was hand painted beautifully, it would be a nice keepsake but the one OP is buying is a white box with a star on it.

Thurmanmurman · 23/11/2019 08:53

Head to Primark/Home Bargains/ B&M/The Works for fillers, such as Gel pens, cute notebooks, nail polish, lip balm, fluffy socks etc.

@Elodie2019 the OP didn't ask for people's thoughts on the actual boxes, just asked for ideas on what to put inside.

People chose to pounce and be negative about something which they weren't even asked for their opinion on. So yes, I'd be quite right in saying the comments were unnecessarily negative.

It also looks like OP is supporting a small, possibly local business which makes me like this gift idea even more. It's a thumbs up from me OP!

whattodo2019 · 23/11/2019 11:25

My SIL like to stick to a budget of £25 per child max.
I'm happy to go over budget a bit.
Thank you for these great ideas . I'm off shopping
PS. I am not Louisa from Pink Pheasant and the boxes are wooden not cardboard and are fab quality
