To ask how to help my boyfriends mum...

Hi All,

Relatively new relationship, was invited back to his house to spend some time together,

And oh my god,

His mum has literally let the house talk apart around her, damp everywhere, doors literally split in 2.

His bed is the same one he was sleeping in when he was 11, there has literally been no maintenenace done in the house for 26 years!

So, wise mumsnetters, is there a certain standard of living that the council are obliged to meet as the house has never been repaired or updated in the 26 years they have been there,

Bf says his mum knows the place is a mess, but refuses to do anything about it.

How can I get her the help she needs and who do I contact with the concern?

Thank you in advance

A grown man who can't buy himself a new bed??Hmm

Throw this one back in the sea, there are plenty more out there.

I agree with most of the previous comments but I think it is realy lovely that the OP is concerned about the situation. It shows that she is a caring person and it is good when someone cares.

If she won't listen to anyone else why is she going to listen to you. It's not up to the council to replace his bed. As an adult that's his job c

It's sweet your concerned, but the Council wont do anything if she's not reporting damp & structural stuff. Social Services would sort with the Council if they were involved as it's a detriment to her physical health & safety. Why is her son not bothered re the damp & her (& his) health tho is the big question. Chest infections that turn into pneumonia in kids & older people are a real risk with severe damp. Where does she go for 2hours every day? Is she escaping the awful conditions to sit in the park/shopping mall was my thought (hoarder I lived by used to do this).
