Cat and fox toilet help!

We have a small patch of soil (weeds) outside our front door. The patch in question is actually next door's and is where they keep their wheelie bins but the area closest to our front door is used regularly by a cat and/or a fox as a toilet. It utterly stinks. Every time we leave the house or come home. I've removed the shit everytime but they just come back and do it again. Have previously used sonic deterrent, citrus peel, coffee grounds - none really work. Has anybody ever laid down those spikey plastic mats you can get on amazon to make it uncomfortable for animals to sit while doing their business and has it worked? I don't know whose cat it might be.

Spikes should work, they can't squat.

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 22/11/2019 13:08

Eucalyptus is supposed to repell cats.

Try that?

Ohyesiam · 22/11/2019 13:16

Not sure about fixes but cats are terrified of lion poo! It’s marketed as The Silent Roar .

Saffagette · 22/11/2019 13:55

Thanks Moon. Trouble is using oils just get washed away though I've just found a clever idea on YouTube using kinder egg yellow pots...so I'll try eucalyptus oil this way

Thanks DriftingLeaves. I'm hoping the physical method will stop them (without hurting them obvs).

vinegar is supposed to deter cats, cheaper than essential oils.

Saffagette · 22/11/2019 13:58

I've heard this about lion's poo Ohyesiam. Maybe I'll try it too. A lovely cocktail of eucalyptus and lion's poo!

You could also cover the area with wood chips or small twigs. it won't be comfortable to walk on or squat on and it should stop it. This is how I protect my seedlings from my cats in the spring :)

StarlitTrees · 22/11/2019 15:01

I had a cat using the patch in my front as a toilet and wood chips has definately stopped it and it looks prettier now too. Added bonus.

Eucalyptus is supposed to repell cats.

You might get koalas instead, though.

Hereward1332 · 22/11/2019 17:06

If it's cats, chilli powder.

Saffagette · 22/11/2019 19:06

I love the idea of woodchips because it'd also allow down the weed growth which is another annoyance!

Saffagette · 22/11/2019 19:07

slow...not allow

You could get an ultrasonic scarer. They hate the sound it makes which humans cannot hear.

Saffagette · 22/11/2019 23:18

I've tried that before Grumpy but it didn't work. It was in a different garden though..
